The German chancellor has said stores, schools, and day care centers are to close in the run-up to Christmas until January 10. The new rules, agreed with Germany's 16 state leaders, will come into effect from Wednesday.
On Sunday, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that most stores would shut from Wednesday, along with schools and day care centers.
The new restrictions will be in effect until at least January 10 to help tackle the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which threatens to overwhelm the country's health system.
In a news conference that followed a meeting of federal and state leaders, she said the country urgently needed to address the exponential rise in COVID-19 infections.
The decision is set to cause a major disruption for retailers, the education system and the public in the lead-up to the Christmas holidays.

-All nonessential shops and services will close until January 10, including hairdressers which remained open under the current lockdown "lite."
-Schools are urged to send students home and continue lessons online, as well as extend the winter break until January 10.
Day care centers will also close, but parents will be able to take paid holidays in order to look after their children.
-Employers are encouraged to allow employees to work from home.
-People will not be allowed to drink alcohol in public.
-Religious events in churches, synagogues and mosques may take place if they follow hygiene rules, but communal singing is not allowed.
-States still plan to ease stricter contact restrictions for December 24 to 26 so that close family members can spend Christmas together — a household may, during this time, invite up to four adults from other households but only from the immediate family, plus any number of children under 14.
-People may not purchase fireworks for New Year's Eve.
There must be bodies everywhere.

So January 11th is the same as December 14th come out of your lock down and get corona virus. Similarly here, all restaurants and bars will close at 10 pm because we all know corona virus comes out at 10:01

They’ve had a spike, but what this means is that everyone is going to cram all their Christmas shopping into the next two days. Increasing close contact and chances for the virus to spread. Great job Frau Merkel!

Its interesting about this “second wave” in Europe, and in parts of the US: Its hitting those countries and regions that were spared in the “first wave”.
Spain was hit very hard in the first wave, mainly in Madrid and Barcelona. But both have been mainly spared in the second wave, which has hit places like Andalucia that barely felt it the first time. Likewise I believe that in Italy, Milan is now safe while Naples was spared at first, and now it is getting it. And New York, hit hard in March-May, now has hardly any deaths, a bit of info not usually noted.
So now it seems those countries and regions which the plague missed initially, are now getting it. The German situation is very much like all of Central and Eastern Europe. The German situation is looking a lot like that of Poland, Hungary, Czechia, Austria.
Also universal in Europe (and New York) was the summer “break”, which did not really happen in the US or Mexico or Latin America.
This Covid thing has constraints in environmental factors that we dont yet understand.
Anyway, New York must be the safest place (from Covid) in the US just now.
My brother lives in Germany and told me they are even having trouble getting his wife in for chemo treatment. His son’s restaurant has been closed, except for takeout, of course. I assume now even takeout will be verboten.
If we had a “summer break” here in US, our hospitals would be getting overwhelmed right now. But we have been getting cases all year long so we should be okay (except for NYC which was hit hard in the first wave).
All part of a plan to destroy capitalism, especially small businesses. If Biden and his Ho get in, we’ll see it happening here.

Take out is still allowed as well as delivery. But the new restrictions are pure evil - 8PM Curfew with few exceptions. 5 people in a private gathering at home (including on Christmas Eve) no more than two households - if you have two grown kids you get to choose which one gets to visit. Absolutely disgusting!
