NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea indicated Tuesday shootings in New York City are on track to be at their highest level in 14 years.
The New York Post quoted Shea saying, “I wish I had better news on gun violence specifically… we’re looking to close out the year on a 14-year high.”

NYC’s last financia/political/crime crises lasted, approximately, from 1971 (or earlier, given many problems Mayor Lindsay had) to at least until 1981 (or some might argue, until Guiliani was elected in 1993)
So I don’t see things approving for quite a few years yet
But, but, I thought the New Yorkers were staying home to avoid getting the China virus. Are you telling me that they are out shooting each other?

As crazy as it sounds, Toronto is almost matching NYC on the number of shootings on a per capita basis. The gang banger virus has infected Toronto, whose black population is overwhelmingly from the Caribbean, South America and Africa (i.e. no history of their ancestors having been enslaved by Canadians). The Jamaican and Somali gangs are the primary suspects, but it’s spreading to other communities. As is the case with American cities, most victims of black violent crime are other blacks, and they are responsible for a far greater percentage of shootings and homicides (about 65%) than their small presence in the Toronto population (8.5%).
