Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday sided with a California church challenging Governor Gavin Newsom's restrictions on indoor worship services amid the spike in coronavirus infections, ordering a federal district court to revisit an earlier ruling against the religious institution.
In a brief unsigned order with no noted dissents, the high court tossed out an order from the federal trial court in the Central District of California, which had upheld Newsom's restrictions. The justices sent the dispute back to the lower court for further consideration in light of its decision last week in a similar challenge to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's restrictions on houses of worship.

That ends any restrictions on worshiping. What’s sad is we have to have this discourse in the first place.
Something just and correct just happened.

Don’t get used to it. It will probably end up being another disappointment. Logic, justice and fairness seem to have been discarded in this country. They are a relic of the past.
Across America for decades, the Church’s willingness to be “lukewarm” has gotten us into this mess. Unfortunately there isn’t an overabundance of congregations willing to take a stand for righteousness . . .many have adopted social agendas. This was not God’s plan for the Church in America.
The USSC is the last finger in the dike. That’s all that’s between us and the breakdown of the republic.
+1 Insightful post. Pandering to social movements has eclipsed what’s moral, spiritual, ethical, and sensible.
Thank you President Trump for Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett!
The entire Republican Senators that grew a spine the past four years and refused to seat the democrat, and then got us the three new Justices !
And also for all the great Judicial nominees the past four years to restock our side.
And also the fabulous RBG for trying to hold out (and failing) for President ‘Illary.
The end of the Republic was on a razor edge the last four years. Still is.
The USSC is the last finger in the dike. That’s all that’s between us and the breakdown of the republic.>>> and the scum roberts voted with the commies.
Exactly! I feel God has abandon us! 😢
God has not abandoned us. I wish it were so. God is judging us!

Gotta give credit to Mitch McConnell for refusing to seat President Obama’s nominee to replace Antonin Scalia.

Meanwhile, the same GOP controlled Senate just unanimously passed a bill lifting the caps on the number of permanent-residency permits (i.e.,green cards). The bill was approved under a procedure known as unanimous consent, which allows legislation with no opposition to pass without moving through the normal process of roll-call votes and hearings.
In other words they did it the sleazy way, by avoiding having to be accountable for their votes.
Consider the implications of this bill for (1) the president’s attempts to control immigration and (2) the future employment prospects of American workers, especially those with children whose own employment and wages will be affected.
The GOP senate took its finger out of the dike.
Take your wins and run with them!
I'm not a churchgoer, but this is a great vindication of the 1st Amendment against our many tyrannical state sociopath politicians.
They will get beaten down from here on out.
"brief unsigned order with no noted dissents"
Oh please. President Trumps is FOR legal immigration.
“The Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act creates a more merit-based system that levels the playing field for high-skilled immigrants, said Senator Kevin Cranmer, who worked to ensure that the legislation includes safeguards against fraud and abuse in the visa system.”
Once upon a time....
LA Times: “Divining a Good Catholic”, by Margaret Carlson — “Once again, with the nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr. to the Supreme Court, Catholics are back in the news, and two old, unpleasant issues have already reemerged. First, the question of who is or isn’t religious — and how that affects one’s ability to hold public office. And second, the question of who is (and who isn’t) a good Catholic. … Roberts is definitely a good Catholic. He belongs to the Church of the Little Flower, a conservative parish in suburban Maryland; has worked only for Republicans, whose line he has toed, and has a wife who directed a pro-life group. So who are the bad Catholics? The easiest way to describe them is that they are … well, liberal Democrats.”
So, is Robert’s now a liberal Democrat?
It’s very disturbing that we even have to argue about it! Get threatened, cited, fined, intimidated...
I agree re lukewarm ness.
I am so ashamed of my congregation and presbytery. We are very Bible believing and solid so I always thought but the willingness to just indefinitely suspend the worship of the Almighty God was so shocking to me.
Kudos to the Baptists. They stepped up.
Mitch McConnell is an American hero
So more immigration in the midst of massive U.S. unemployment (i.e., U6 was 20 million in October) caused by the coronavirus pandemic is somehow good for the country? And just as the the virus is threatening to worsen and we’re facing new lockdowns? So called “safeguards” in the legislation are not going to help unemployed people earn a living or save for the future.
I don’t know how any American could be more concerned about “Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants” than they are about our fellow citizens being able to put food on their table and pay for basic necessities of life.
What happened to putting America First? Oh that’s right, the the GOP senators and congress people are all on safe government salaries, are independently wealthy, or soon will be if after the leave their office and get a lobbying job in the Swamp. They’ll land on their feet while the rest of America struggles to make ends meet.
