If he becomes president, high on Joe Biden’s list to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo.
The pro-abortion Democrat governor recently signed a bill legalizing abortions up to birth in her state, and she, like Biden, believes killing unborn babies in abortions is “health care.”
Politico reports two people connected with Biden’s transition team confirmed that Raimondo is being considered for HHS secretary. They said the Rhode Island governor has strong leadership experience, and they mentioned her quick response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Governors are very familiar with health care because it’s such a huge part of their budget,” one of the sources told Politico. “They’re also generally decent managers and good communicators and they have political skills.”
Biden’s team also reportedly was considering New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, another pro-abortion Democrat, for the position, but she is no longer a favorite, the report states.
Biden likely will announce his choice for HHS secretary next week, according to the report. A pro-abortion Democrat, Biden is the presumed winner of the presidency, though President Donald Trump is challenging the voting results in several states.

The next HHS secretary, one of Biden’s most consequential picks, will oversee a massive immunization effort and help manage the bolstered federal response Biden has promised for the worsening pandemic. The HHS pick will also shape Biden’s plans for building on Obamacare and shoring up health insurance for millions who have lost coverage during the pandemic.
While the immediate focus is the coronavirus, whoever becomes HHS secretary also will have a major impact on the future of abortion and unborn babies’ lives. As the coronavirus spreads, abortion advocacy groups are pressuring Biden to make expanding abortions a top priority during his first week in office.
Disturbing to many Americans, Biden and other Democrat leaders are reinterpreting the meaning of “health care” to include the killing of unborn babies in abortions.
Like Biden, Raimondo claims to be Catholic, but she also believes that killing unborn babies in late-term abortions is “health care.” In 2019, she signed a law to expand late-term abortions on viable unborn babies in her state, including brutal dismemberment abortions.
In April, Biden also called abortion an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. Among other things, his national health care plan would expand abortions by forcing insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.
Under Trump, HHS Secretary Alex Azar and Vice President Mike Pence led the department in recommitting to basic human rights and health care for all Americans, born and unborn.
According to Politico, “For the past four years, Vice President Mike Pence has put his fingerprints on HHS … he supported efforts like the creation of a conscience and religious freedom division inside the civil rights office; and he worked to restrict funding for Planned Parenthood.”
A Biden administration would be a complete reversal of those life-saving policies. Biden has promised to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, which does more than 345,000 abortions annually, and end the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding for elective abortions through Medicaid and other programs.
The livelihoods of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who believe it is wrong to kill an unborn baby also may be in jeopardy.
According to Politico, Biden also is considering former Obama adviser Ezekiel Emanuel as HHS secretary. Emanuel, a bioethicist at the University of Pennsylvania, wrote an article in 2017 arguing that conscience protection laws are “unethical” and “unjustifiable,” and doctors who refuse to do procedures they believe are wrong – such as abortions — should “leave the profession.”
These radical, anti-life positions are vastly out of touch with most Americans. National polling consistently shows Americans — including people who are “pro-choice” on abortion — oppose late-term abortions.
