Two of my heroes are Ludwig von Mises and Ayn Rand, but for several reasons I could never consider myself a full-blown libertarian. First off is the fact that you can and should legislate morality, and in fact every libertarian without exception does. His government is an extension of his moral ideas. He won't prosecute you for stealing a wife, but he'll put you in jail for stealing a loaf, and beyond this he'll do the same thing for murder, and fraud, and kidnapping, and assault — all sins featured in the Book of Deuteronomy, and all 100% within the realm of morality.
Libertarians like fewer laws, and the ones they do like they take too seriously. In fact, libertarianism is an enforcement of the one commandment nobody else tries to enforce, which is the second-most impossible one after the First. What I mean here is the Tenth: Thou Shalt Not Covet. You want your neighbor's property? Don't be jealous of it; go earn it, they say — a much healthier and manlier proposition than go tax it, but insane when it turns into taxation is theft. We were prescribed taxation in the same Exodus in which theft was proscribed. Beyond this, nobody has explained why sex and speech are governed by "morality" (and thus out of law's way), but property isn't, and I think the case could be made that most aspects of life need some laws and morals — especially if you're going into business with somebody.

Libertarians have some useful ideas, but full blown libertarians are as nutty as Marxists. For example there is their obsession with the illogical idea that borders shouldn’t be enforced.
Unless and until the welfare state is dismantled, borders absolutely should be enforced.
Libertarians are just liberals who complain about paying taxes.
Libertarians are more akin to classic Anarchists than to any other ideology. Classic Anarchists believe there should be no governments at all and that the individual is the ultimate arbitrator of their own destiny. Anarchists falsely believe that a social harmony would result if everyone adhered to this belief, however human nature is one of selfishness and a lust for dominance over others, which is the reason civilizations form to protect a unified people against others who wish to take from them. I used to consider myself a Libertarian when I was young and ignorant, and the more I learn from my fellow mankind, the further away I drift from those foolish ideas. Limited government and borders are necessary to ensure personal liberty. Communism appears Libertarian like in its purest form, however the step before Communism - Socialism - requires iron fisted government control to shape society into thinking like a Communist, however in practice the corruption of power mires society into a permanent state of Socialism and never truly reaching the Communist utopia, which again due to human nature, is impossible to achieve.
I didn’t see where he explains conservatism.
I pretty much equate conservatism with Pragmatism, ie do what has been proven to work and cautiously try new ideas. Unlike leftist and libertarianism, it is not a rigid ideology.
What drives leftist is egalitarianism - equality of results.
What drives libertarianism is maximizing personal freedom.
Conservatism is between these two extremes - it’s driven by what works, especially what has been proven to work. So it recognizes that a certain amount of personal freedom is very desirable, and giving everyone a chance to succeed (but not guaranteeing it) is also desirable.
The other important aspect of conservatism is that it accepts reality and makes the most of it, whereas the other two are constantly fighting reality, and that is why they keep on failing.
nice, very nice.
The last true “Liberal” was JFK.
After him you get the crony capitalist-socialist LBJ and he then gets eaten by his own well adored Leftists, and the Leftists then finish the takeover of the Dims. There are no more “Liberals” in politics. Those who pretend they are Liberals are knowingly or ignorantly Progressive-Leftists.
I see that people here have warped ideas of what a libertarian is.... Let’s try something different...
Define what a conservative is...
I think that’s a rose colored view of JFK.
The Kennedys including JFK were the bench prototype Clintons.
Try Truman, even then just maybe !
