I learned from Don Boudreaux this morning that Walter Williams died either this morning or last night. For those of you who don’t know, he was a long-time economics professor at George Mason University.
I’ll have more to say later but I want to give one appreciation.
Walter liked smoking and he also hated the TSA. Some years ago, the combination of no-smoking regs on planes and intrusive groping by the TSA caused him to vow never to fly by commercial airline again. When he received offers to give speeches that were far enough away that driving was infeasible, he negotiated for a private airplane to take him there.
I’m trying to find more info, but there is little reporting on this. I first heard it on the Rick and Bubba show.
Great mind. A bad loss for freedom.
RIP, Mr. Williams.
2020 is making a case for it's inclusion on the list of Worst Years Ever.
RIP Walter. You will not be forgotten.
A great conservative champion, and a life well lived.
YES. “BLACK by popular demand” was his introduction.
Mea culpa.
Walter Williams was my favorite substitute host for Rush.
I dont remember when he last hosted but I presume it’s been a few years back.
Mark Steyn has now taken over favorite substitute.
RIP Dr. Williams.
I’m thinking it was a joke...
Not necessary. Just linking in case others wanted to read
comments on that thread. Have a nice day.
He went home to be with our Lord.
He was a good man. He filled in for Rush a few times back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s
RIP Brother, and prayers for the living who are in mourning.
Now the left will be hoping for Thomas Sowell next.
No Blacks are allowed to leave the plantation.
Speaking of Black Lives who matter. We've lost three great ones this year:
So sorry! I remember him guest hosting for Rush and was wondering why I hadn’t heard him in a long time. He was a national treasure.
I remember when he had a run in with the TSA - he said his wife got searched (over 80 years old) - and TSA confiscated her tiny sewing scissors. He said he told the TSA worker “Hope you’re happy with yourself!” - the idiot told him he was “just doing his job.”
I remember when TSA grabbed my brand new (expensive) cosmetics that hadn’t even been opened - confiscated out of my purse. Guess they were over the “liquid” limit at that time - I had no idea but I lost about $100 worth of stuff.
He was one of my favorite columnists. He was 100% right in emphasizing (actually demonstrating and proving) that minimum-wage laws reduce the employment of minimum wage workers, particularly teenagers and especially black teenagers.
Historically, the minimum wage law got its start as a way to prevent southern black highway construction crews from underbidding northern white unionized crews. The minimum wage is just another anti-black law that Democrats passed.
The minimum wage law remains popular because of its name. It sounds like it raises wages, when in fact it merely outlaws jobs. It’s a little like outlawing Fs, Ds and Cs in school so as to raise GPAs.
Walter Williams offered both common and uncommon sense on a variety of topics.
I remember that intro...
Yes,Williams and Steyn are tied for my favorite guest host.
Thanks to the great Dr. Williams, I do not have to pay reparations: http://walterewilliams.com/WalterWilliamsAmnestyProclamation.pdf
Those were the ones I was thinking about. Thanks for listing the names.
