I learned from Don Boudreaux this morning that Walter Williams died either this morning or last night. For those of you who don’t know, he was a long-time economics professor at George Mason University.
I’ll have more to say later but I want to give one appreciation.
Walter liked smoking and he also hated the TSA. Some years ago, the combination of no-smoking regs on planes and intrusive groping by the TSA caused him to vow never to fly by commercial airline again. When he received offers to give speeches that were far enough away that driving was infeasible, he negotiated for a private airplane to take him there.
Terrific guy Smart, witty
Long ago when he was substituting for Rush, he was talking about a Dim proposal to “tax” something Dims considered “bad” like ammo
So he said in this time of AIDS, we should tax homosexuality
Those familiar with his style will probably read that and LTAO
Sorry to hear this. He was always my favorite replacement for Rush Limbaugh on the radio.
Walter Williams lived a life to celebrate as a truly free man. Filled with wit and wisdom, never a slave to political correctness or public opinion and followed the Hillbilly Health Triangle - caffeine, nicotine and bacon. He was 84.
Lots of happy angels today to welcome his pearly smile through the pearly gates.
We are all blessed that he shared his life and times with us.
Did he teach true Free Market Economics - the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the marketplace free from government interference - the true “Wealth of Nations”?
Godspeed Walter!
You are one of the greatest voices for conservatism of ALL TIME
PEACE BE WITH YOU SIR ! 21 gun salute !
I am so sorry to hear that a truly great man has passed from us and into the welcoming arms of Jesus.
His was a great conservative voice - this is a great loss for mankind!!!
He once wrote that if you didn’t understand economics in college it was your professors fault.
So true. Mine made it so complex and convoluted. A year after college and with some actual living it became simple.
Brilliant and wonderful man. We have lost a giant.
What????
May the Lord grant him (and especially poor Mrs. Williams!) pardon and peace.
RIP. Very sad.
RIP...a great American and conservative voice.
Today we are mourning too many conservatives who have passed.
RIP Walter Williams and Sheila Robinson 🙏🙏❤️
So he said in this time of AIDS, we should tax homosexuality
I read that and the internal vocalization was his voice
Another giant passes on. May he RIP. Thank you good sir, for your contributions over the years, and prayers for your eternal souls and the strength for your friends and loved ones to get through this difficult time.
RIP Uncle Walter, wonderful, smart and funny.
I would’ve been proud to have him as an uncle.
Godspeed.
Upsetting news.
I always thought he was a cool guy and enjoyed hearing him when he substituted for Rush back in the day.
I thought about him last week.....he was an awesome fill in for Rush....soo intelligent, witty, entertaining. Rest in Peace sir.....
RIP, Dr. Williams. So many great columns and what a treat when he guest hosted for Rush. I loved it when he skewered Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton by calling them the “Klan with a tan.”
