SOARING tensions between China and the US in the South China Sea could easily spill over into armed conflict, according to the Philippines' defense secretary.

Delfin Lorenzana said the intense rivalry between Beijing and Washington was the major security concern in the volatile region warned his country would bear the brunt of any escalation in hostilities.

Mr Lorenzana told a Manilla defence forum: "If ever a shooting war happens, the Philippines — which is right smack in the middle of the conflict — will be involved whether she likes it or not.

"This is the crux of the security challenge in the Indo-Pacific region, the looming confrontation of the US and its allies and China for the South China Sea."

Both sides have recently stepped up military activities in the strategic waterway.

China has increased the frequency of its armed coastguard patrols and last week the US flew two supersonic heavy bombers into China's air defence identification zone to the northeast of Taiwan.

The way the nation rallied around Truman, LBJ and Dubya during the Korean, Vietnam and Iraq Wars, denying Truman and LBJ second terms, and handing Dubya the honor of being one of the most unpopular presidents ever, upon his final term of office? Wars are terrible for approval ratings when prolonged or high casualty, and not particularly great even when clearly successful. Desert Storm did nothing for Bush Senior despite being the most successful and low-casualty in ever in American history.

This is not not even exceptional to the US. Churchill’s Conservative government lost power pretty much as soon as WW2 was pursued to a successful conclusion. And in the case of defeat or retreat, the political consequences are just as predictable - Anthony Eden lost his premiership after his attempt to retake the Suez Canal along with the French and the Israelis was thwarted by Eisenhower.

Regardless of how SCOTUS rules on the Rats' efforts to steal the White House there'll be no war...at least not for the next 4 years.That's because under President Trump the Butchers of Beijing won't dare try any funny business and under Heels Up the Butchers will know that they own her and have nothing to fear from her.

So the free people of East Asia and Southeast Asia had better hope that SCOTUS rules correctly.
