WASHINGTON - The Justice Department is quietly amending its execution protocols, no longer requiring federal death sentences to be carried out by lethal injection and clearing the way to use other methods like firing squads and poison gas.
The amended rule, published Friday in the Federal Register, allows the U.S. government to conduct executions by lethal injection or use “any other manner prescribed by the law of the state in which the sentence was imposed.” A number of states allow other methods of execution, including electrocution, inhaling nitrogen gas or death by firing squad.
It remains unclear whether the Justice Department will seek to use any methods other than lethal injection for executions in the future. The rule – which goes into effect on Dec. 24 – comes as the Justice Department has scheduled five executions during the lame-duck period, including three just days before President-elect Joe Biden takes office.
A Justice Department official said the change was made to account for the fact the Federal Death Penalty Act requires sentences be carried out in the “in the manner prescribed by the law of the state in which the sentence is imposed,″ and some of those states use methods other than lethal injection.
The official told the AP the federal government “will never execute an inmate by firing squad or electrocution unless the relevant state has itself authorized that method of execution.”
The official said two executions scheduled in December would be done by lethal injection but didn’t provide information about three others scheduled in January. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The change is likely to set off intense criticism from Democrats and anti-death penalty advocates, as the Trump administration tries to push through a number of rule changes before Trump leaves office.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to give the government the power to kill people. Ever.
The less power the government has, the better.
interesting that they are discussing execution methods in this time of high treason
That’s what I was thinking. Treason will get you a public hanging. Make these dirty people start sweating. Change the law and then offer lesser charges i you come forward now.
EXACTLY
Justice is best served at the point of attack if the victim can turn the tables on the perp.
What’s wrong with hanging? Is it too cheap? Too simple?
I do not think that illegal plunder, such as theft or swindling — which the penal code defines, anticipates, and punishes — can be called socialism. It is not this kind of plunder that systematically threatens the foundations of society. Anyway, the war against this kind of plunder has not waited for the command of these gentlemen. The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. Long before the Revolution of February 1848 — long before the appearance even of socialism itself — France had provided police, judges, gendarmes, prisons, dungeons, and scaffolds for the purpose of fighting illegal plunder. The law itself conducts this war, and it is my wish and opinion that the law should always maintain this attitude toward plunder.

I’m good with it. Perhaps we could use the noose from Bubba Wallace.
Firing squad, quick, painless, sends a very effective message to others. Make it the primary means of execution.
And I would specifically request that none of the rifles contains a blank.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to give the government the power to kill people.”
Government always has and always will have that power. The best we can hope is to prevent its misuse by keeping Government chained in the Constitutional prison that was designed for it.

Let's Do It.
The more that comes out about Edison, the more I agree with your calling him a dick.
To change the subject a little, I have had one hand on the negative and the other on the positive of a fully charged car battery and felt absolutely nothing. The reason is simply because doing exactly that will not harm a person.
My point is Hollywood has made countless movies about shocking people with a car battery or even killing them. This shows the blatant ignorance of the lefty writer/director/actors of simple everyday life.
And this same bunch is trying to tell us who is best to run the country.
I believe in the death penalty. If not Executioners than who?
That form of Execution seems to be the most efficient and effective. The other forms just drag it out.
Nitrogen is fairly quick and painless, it’s basically air without oxygen. The individual simply goes to sleep. If they didn’t know they being delivered nitrogen they wouldn’t know they were dying. No odor, no taste and you don’t get the pounding chest from Carbon Dioxide build up, you just pass out and die.
Realistically you can just strap them into a movable chair and wheel them into a chamber and start the Nitrogen. No mask, no needles no pain at all, they just pass out and die. Blow out the chamber with fresh air and then go wheel out the dead body.
This should have a psychological effect on viewers, much as would public hangings. I always thought the idea of capital punishment should be to prevent future crime. Making it public should be a good deterrent.
