Why isn’t Sotomayor ever described in the media as “staunchly liberal” or even liberal?
It should have been a 6/3 decision, but Roberts has now fully embraced the dark side. Of course, now that Roberts is staunchly squishy he will get invited to all of the best DC parties so I guess there is that.

I think Roberts was a stealth leftist. When he was the swing vote, he could argue with the conservative justices that if they wanted him to join their decision, then they needed to water it down enough to be acceptable to the Left.
Now he is much less relevant, and he’s unhappy.
