For some inexplicable reason, conservatives rush towards fratricide with the same kind of urgency that drives lemmings over the cliff. It’s what they do, even when it’s counterproductive and costly.
Conservatism wasn’t made better off by the four-year campaign waged against Speaker Newt Gingrich by some House conservatives who considered him ideologically unreliable. It wasn’t helped by John Boehner’s premature departure from Congress, brought about by political headaches caused by House Republicans on his right flank.
A small group of so-called purists on the right even crossed swords with President Ronald Reagan, without whom modern conservatism would have emerged stillborn after the Barry Goldwater’s 1964 thumping at Lyndon Johnson’s hands. Yes, the purists even scourged Reagan, who launched a revolution the left is still trying to roll back.
In the light of what appears to be President Trump’s defeat in his re-election bid, conservatives are now turning on Fox News, a channel where I once appeared with some frequency back in the 1990s, over its supposed ideological apostasy.
What nonsense. Fox was never an explicitly conservative organization, but, as conceived by Rupert Murdoch and brought to life by Roger Ailes, it was successfully positioned as the counterpunch to the overtly liberal networks that dominated the media: CBS, ABC, NBC and CNN.
It was a necessary addition to the nation’s information stream. The opinion side of the network leans heavily to the right, but the news-gathering operation plays it mostly down the middle, remembering the need for balance, because every story has at least two sides.
As a programming strategy, it works. The network is a financial and ratings juggernaut embraced by conservatives, because Fox News gave their agenda and personalities a fair hearing.

When people like Mitt Romney, the Bush family, and those cucks at the Lincoln Project claim to be conservative, then it has lost all meaning.
The new term is 'Patriot', which is a direct line to the Constitution and our founding fathers, and which Donald Trump represents.
I stopped watching Fox News many years ago, so this guy can go pound salt.
Fox News has always been a Cheap Labor Express propaganda arm.
They hid their agenda under the cover of their prime time line up.
Has he not seen Chris Wallace’s performance at the first debate? Anyone watching 5 minutes of Fox’s daytime programming realizes that Fox has been “Drudged” and has completely flipped sides.
‘
Fox filed legal motions supporting Jim Acosta who took the microphone and wouldn’t give it back, and pushed a female WH Staffer.
They refused to run a Trump Immigration Ad before the Mid-terms.
They prohibited hosts and guests from using Seth Rich’s name.
They continually peddle unnamed source rumors that accuse Trump of everything. A great deviation from their policy on Obama.

Brett Baier went on the View.
One of the idiots asked him, aren’t Trump Supporters misinformed because Trump always lies to them? And they don’t know the facts.
Baier said, I agree with you.
No, Peter, we’re just not a cheap date.
We brought Fox News to the dance, Peter, not the other way around.
Trump Republicans need to show fury at lots of things, including Fox News and their LSM colleagues, plus RINO Republicans, and, of course Never Trumpers. While Trump is not an ideologue, this is a battle between Trump Republicans and pretty much everyone else. Scorched earth, run Fox out of business.
The Government-Media Complex is an organ grinder and a monkey.
Only question is which is which.
Fox got its start in NY with the help of Mario Cuomo.
They can blow it out their asses over at fauxsnooze.
We aren’t supposed to call out Conservatism Inc.
They’re little more than Controlled Opposition. They are paid to say mass immigration, open borders, and amnesty are just fine, as long as the invaders have the “right values”.
It’s such a sham.
We aren’t required to check our values and principles at the door just to keep people and organizations under our tent because “we need them to win.”
Fox has utterly betrayed us. They front ran the election flip AHEAD of all the other news agencies.
THEN they crammed the “nothing to see here, no fraud here” line down our throats even after the entire Republican base called shenanigans.
They didn’t lead the charge against online censorship that went nuclear during the after the election.
You don’t get to just whitewash all that and act like it didn’t happen. They were MORE in the tank and biased than the other news outlets and were selected by the media elite to try to break our morale that night.
Look at who owns Fox, then look at what his wife believes also. It makes no sense to try to salvage Fox as long as outright enemies run the place. We have our own media now. Fox can join the rest in the dustbin. It’s not like any media outlet can not be replaced.
isn’t that cute? Rinos defending Rinos
Fox was the creation of one man, Roger Ailes, who understood the business. They kicked him out, and I suspect the Murdoch son’s wife had a role, and that was the beginning of the end of Fox. Was only a matter of time before they hit rock bottom.
I don’t think I can remember an instance when Republicans defended a conservative under attack.
It seems to be a defining characteristic of Republicans going back as far as I can remember.
After all conservatism is not really a Republican thing. You might recall that Nelson Rockefeller was the man that defined Republicanism from the 1930s to the 1670s.
That brand of Republicanism is still very strong in much of the country. I know it is here in Ohio. They seem to be the only kind of Governor that gets elected here.
They call themselves moderates but they are Progressives.
Ailes just saw a lucrative niche that wasn’t met by the marketplace.
It was just business.
True, but he also was a good businessman.
He knew to leave a successful formula alone.
When you are winning and your competition insist on losing; leave well enough alone.
Murdoc's son is more interested in running Fox to suit his political ideology.
Yes, the purists even scourged Reagan, who launched a revolution the left is still trying to roll back.

I like Reagan as much as the next guy, but what aspects of Reaganism HASN’T been ignored or rolled back?
