The Old Testament book of Jeremiah tells the story of Judah, a suffering nation haunted by disobedience, corruption and godlessness. Unfortunately, it’s not difficult to see the resemblance between today’s America and ancient Judah.
We read in Jeremiah 2:8, “The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’ Those who handle the law did not know me; the shepherds transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after things that do not profit” (ESV). The spiritual breakdown of Judah began with its religious leaders and lawmakers.
Jeremiah’s observation that corrupt leadership infects the entire nation like a moral poison is certainly borne out in American culture. Many of our leaders today tell us that the Bible is no longer relevant. They also say biblical morality does not have to be the norm. Inward moral failure results in outward national ruin. And once a national decline has set in, it is not easy to reverse course.
Furthermore, our children are not being taught the truth about America’s faith heritage. In fact, people in other countries often know more about America than Americans. I was born in Egypt and lived in Lebanon and Australia before immigrating to America and becoming a citizen — a dream I had from a young age. I came because America is a nation of freedom and opportunity that was founded on Judeo-Christian values. Despite what humanists and liberals say, the men and women who settled this land came to worship God freely and to spread the Gospel.
Of course, the settlers were not perfect. Like everyone, they were sinful people. Yet, many of them were truly devoted to Christ and to biblical principles. We see evidence of this in the documents that have shaped America: The Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution.
Sadly, America is now in a downward spiral. We are more divided than ever before. A new generation has arisen that does not know it is God who made America great. Jeremiah observed that the nation of Judah deteriorated because of its sin and disobedience to God. Like Judah, America has enjoyed a relationship with God; our national motto is “In God we trust.” He has protected this great nation through the years — as long as we looked to him and sought to walk with him.
Thankfully, there is still hope for America.
When Jeremiah assumed his prophetic office, he remembered the former days when the priests and lawmakers — and the people following them — walked in the ways of the Lord. He prayed, “Restore us to yourself, LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old” (Lamentations 5:21 NIV). If we desire revival and healing in America, we too should pray this prayer. May we never forget the tremendous sacrifices of the men and women who came before us, and may their faith be an example and inspiration.
May we remember, so that we may return.
Only one example in the Bible where a nation repented that I know of..............................................
And that Nation was restored to law and order, prosperity and peace.
I certainly repent of what we have become worshipping freedom over morality slaughtering our children for financial gain and indulging in Perversion for pleasure.
We now have a two party government that one of the parties formally rejected God.
I weep for what America was and has become.
Beautiful. Pass it on.
Yes, but Jonah wasn’t happy about the situation. We have many leaders that would also rather have us destroyed that repent.................................
Will November 3 2020 be known as the day that we live in infamy? The end of America as we once knew it? 😞
The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’
The Lord Answers Jeremiah
Jer 12:5 “If racing against mere men makes you tired, how will you race against horses? If you stumble and fall on open ground, what will you do in the thickets near the Jordan?
I encourage all to read in context to get the full flavor.

I’m beginning to understand the intolerance of many Democrat citizens. My conclusion is that many of these folks have replaced God with politics, and now consider any expressed opposition or contradiction to be akin to blasphemy.
This sort of mind set is not exclusive to Democrats.
Anyone, Republicans too, can put all of their faith and hope into the actions of other human beings, vs spiritual action.
I have family members who have stopped speaking to be ‘other than Hi & Bye, because they know I happily vote for Trump.
And to them, I say in my head “Fine. Stay stupid and on the Plantation if it makes you feel popular.”
This is an interesting time to live.
We could repent and turn to God, but honestly, that would only delay the inevitable.
The world stage is being set for the rise of the antichrist and the end times prophecies. There are things falling into place and technology in place that allows for fulfillment of those prophecies in ways that could never have been before.
Some generation must see this and go through it, as disheartening as it is. I wish I had not seen such days, but we need to be praying that if God so chooses to not deliver us again, we should live worthy of the calling we have to be part of it.
With over 40 million murdered fetuses since 1973 Rowe vs Wade, why should God bless the USA?
My thoughts as well. So many are too fearful of seeing this as a possibility.
It reminds me of one of the Chronicles of Narnia books where Prince Caspian asks “Do you think that the privilege of seeing the last things is to be bought for a song?”

Dr. Francis Shaeffer explains how secular humanism began, grew, and has now become the state religion. It does not believe man is made in the image of God, but instead is just a biological machine, formed by chance. In his book “A Christian Manifesto,” he says that this view of “material-energy, chance,” has taken advantage of the liberty we had to implant intolerance in our courts and schools against that very freedom. The humanists over time have systematically destroyed the Christian base for our freedoms which were formed through belief in God so that they have made binding law whatever they want for society at the moment. We may be seeing right now what may be the end of our American system due to the erosion which arbitrary law and rulings always result in which is chaos leading to authoritarianism, dictatorship and tyranny. With this election and what seems to be tremendous fraud that few in authority want to investigate, we could be witnessing a strong indication that our nation is close to being lost and dead. I hate to be so blunt, but, I believe in my heart that we will see in the next 30 days or so an indication of where we are headed and whether normal people are willing to stand against a rapid disintegration of the freedoms we have left. The different scenarios are very scary to think about even if you firmly believe that God is in control.
you are right. Prayer is the only thing that will help. But you also need repentance. And to remember God is in charge, and although politics is important, it is not the same as serving God.
I am upset at the election but when I prayed about it, I felt that the Lord was allowing it as a punishment for America’s sins.
The situation in ancient Judah sure seems to be repeating itself in the USA today....and the right solution to it is exactly the same as it was then.
Indeed; for NONE of our POLITICS are capable of saving us!
