The researchers found that a unique protocol of treatments with high-pressure oxygen in a pressure chamber can reverse two major processes associated with aging and its illnesses: the shortening of telomeres (protective regions located at both ends of every chromosome) and the accumulation of old and malfunctioning cells in the body...The clinical trial was conducted as part of a comprehensive Israeli research program that targets aging as a reversible condition.

It is a head scratcher when I read the reactions of those here who buy into every new high protein diet, high dosage vitamin or cannabis derived supplement as the answer to all of their medical and age related problems. While the same group seems to disregard the benefits of the old adage about staying active and eating a balanced diet.
I was glad to see a healthy amount of skepticism in this thread.
Actually it has:
There was a doctor in my town with a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at his house. He was considered “odd”. He put his wife in it for too long.
She croaked. I remember people saying, he probably didn’t really fall asleep after he stuck her in there, and he was never charged for negligence or anything.
I vaguely remember people saying it was like “the bends”.
It is valuable for treating many problems such as carbon monoxide poisoning and certain types of wound care, but it can also be dangerous to your lungs especially. I am highly skeptical about its use for treating psychological conditions and aging.
I was a successful bicycle racer many, many years ago. At that time endurance athletes were using hyperbaric chambers that reduced pressure and oxygen levels to sleep in at night to increase their red blood cell count. It seemed dubious to me, but I personally know people who were at the top of the game who did it and were very successful bicycle racers.
At approx. $150 per session, it sounds like a big scam to me...........

its great stuff
more o2 into the tissues makes for better healing and repair, and more destruction of harmful bacteria/parasites/viruses
goodbye tanning beds hello hyperbaric chambers?
Under controlled clinical conditions, HBOT is as safe as any medical procedure.
As a veteran, I’m for looking into many non-traditional methods for treating PTSD and TBI in the many veterans and first responders who are suffering with these injuries. More clinical testing needs to be done and off-label trials should be conducted also. Whatever works.
I prefer to live outside a hyperbaric chamber.
That is a horribly inaccurate statement. Medical procedures vary greatly in risk. Most procedures do not have the following risks and complications:
Lung damage.
Fluid buildup or bursting (rupture) of the middle ear.
Sinus damage.
Changes in vision, causing nearsightedness, or myopia.
Oxygen poisoning, which can cause lung failure, fluid in the lungs, or seizures.
We have a close friend who is currently confined to a nursing home until her lungs someday recover from damage done by Oxygen therapy gone bad to treat pneumonia.
This is not something that should be used by crackpots to treat conditions that likely will not respond any better than a strict regimen of placebos. And this includes veterans being used as Guinea pigs by the VA.
Did you actually read what I wrote? Perhaps you don’t understand the term “controlled clinical conditions”. Obviously, there is always some risk from any medical treatment.
You apparently have had a bad experience with HBOT and are now painting the entire procedure as risky and dangerous. As a diving instructor I was involved in HBT incidents for over 25 years, either first hand or as professional reading to keep abreast of the latest procedures. I have seen first hand how HBT and HBOT can assist the victim. I could show you dozens of cases where people are now walking and free of pain from HBOT.
And it’s veterans themselves that have pushed the VA for these treatments since little else the VA did had much effect.
Re: Actually it has
Thanks for correcting that.
I goofed.
In my own defense - I did a Free Republic search on the paper title, and on the Science Daily headline, and on oxygen, and NOTHING came back.
How much does Hyperbaric Therapy Cost for Treatments?

“Riley Poor, a C5–6 Quadriplegic, was completely bed-ridden due to a non-healing pressure sore. While he was in bed rest, Riley often experienced painful spasms and nerve pain. These spasms gradually became so frequent that Riley, despite the excruciating pain, became accustomed to them and the occurrences became a normal part of his life.”
Read the rest of his story.
The question is whether you actually understand what you wrote??? You more than implied that all supervised medical procedures have the same amount of risk. I have experience with “HBOT” both personally and professionally. No matter how you feel about it, there is risk involved. As I said in one of my posts I actually have known people who have owned and used hyperbaric chambers without proper supervision in short sigthed efforts to increase their athletic performance. There is a sucker born every minute obviously.
Obviously in cases where it is being used to treat medical that it is known to be beneficial the results are worth the risks. This thread is about a study where people were being used as Guinea pigs to allegedly attempt to reverse the aging process. Regardless of the motivation... I can guarantee that the study will motivate charlatans all over the world to sell treatments for to reverse aging for exorbitant prices.
As far as your contention that it can be used to treat a psychological problem, PTSD... this would appear to be a dubious proposition... but I have no problem with actual studies being done to determine if this is somehow worthwhile.
I really could not care less... it is an interesting subject and worth multiple threads. Each thread came from a different source and their perspectives on the study were slightly different as well.
