LEESBURG, Florida (Reuters) - The night a cop killed Andrew Scott started out like many others had for the 26-year-old pizzeria worker. Home from his evening shift, he and his girlfriend, Miranda Mauck, ate a late supper and spent several hours watching television and playing video games.
Then, around 1:30 a.m., as the two sat talking in T-shirts and underwear, they were startled by a loud knock at the door. We “looked at each other and jumped up real fast,” Mauck said in an interview.
As they rushed to throw on some clothes, the knocking came again. Scott grabbed the 9mm semi-automatic pistol he kept at home for the couple’s safety. With Mauck close behind, Scott approached the door, which had no peephole. He opened it with his right hand, the gun in his left.
They barely had time to take in the four sheriff’s deputies standing at the door with guns drawn when six shots rang out. “They didn’t even say anything, they just started shooting,” Mauck said.
Three bullets struck Scott. He stumbled backward and collapsed onto the sofa where minutes earlier he and Mauck had sat playing video games. “They shot me..."

“He opened it with his right hand, the gun in his left.”
I’ve done that at least 20 times in my life.
GO TO DEMOCRAT UNDERGROUND...
You’re an idiot
"...loud knock at the door at 1:30 am..."
Demanding accountability is not the same as panty-fa.
I used to have a sign on my front door, placed there with .308 projectiles. It said quite clearly :
NO KNOCK WARRANTS WILL BE TREATED AS HOME INVASIONS. OCCUPANTS ARE WELL ARMED.
Unlike my neighbors, I never had an issue. Maybe those night time practice firings on full auto mattered?
Or was it the Claymores on my front gate???

Why not have a multi-pellet load first, and put a paper bag over your firearm?
Please read the entire article, basalt. The cops had the wrong house. The guy they killed was a completely innocent person.
A tragedy all around.
there’s been accidental police shootings since the invention of firearms...and you will never get rid of immunity for police. That’s what wrongful death lawsuits are for....you would never get anybody to be a cop, it would be non stop lawsuits. All you can do is screen these guys as best you can....when you people find this “perfect world /LA LA Land” you’re looking for, let me know when you find it...
A police state is a safe state.
> and you will never get rid of immunity for police. That’s what wrongful death lawsuits are for.... <
Agreed. In this incident the police acted poorly. So as you noted, a lawsuit would be appropriate. I would strip a cop of his qualified immunity only in cases of extreme gross negligence, or criminal behavior.
Is this one of those cases? I read the entire article carefully. It’s a close call, but I think not.
My main point is that this shouldn’t be another “back the blue” type of story. An innocent man died. The cops deserve some heavy criticism here.
As a teenager, I delivered pizza for a year or so. Thousands of deliveries. I never went to the wrong house. Just saying. Probably not relevant. Apples and oranges, guns and pizza.
The police were just doing their jobs, following standard procedure. There is no evidence any any policeman ever violating any citizen’s rights.

OTOH,when cops go to someone's house at 1AM they should make damn sure they're at the right place.
Your experience differs from mine.I’ve never delivered pizza but I did work for the Census Bureau for a few months.I just finished in fact. Going door to door...searching for a specific address can be confusing.Finding the correct address is usually pretty simple but not always. At least it’s not in my neck of the woods.
Please read the entire article, basalt. The cops had the wrong house. The guy they killed was a completely innocent person. That's supposedly what happened in the Breonna Taylor case.
Where are the riots?
They keep saying “second amendment rights” like that’s the cause of the problem. Substitute “right to self defense” and see how it reads, Rooters.
