The idea of a post-election active lame duck session of Congress undermines democracy.
Undermines it?
The PURPOSE of the United States Constitution is to PREVENT democracy from taking over the country, as the Founders recognized democracy as an evil from the pits of Hell.
This article is “evergreen” meaning that it could be written every two years.
Not having a political price to pay for their actions might actually cause some of them to do the right thing.
What a crock. People are elected to work for a period of time regardless of other elections.
The spin is in. We don’t even know if it is a lame duck session. Full speed ahead!
So, this person believes judges should not be appointed during this time, because it’s never a “national emergency.”
No, I think that if work needs to get done, get it done.
So I guess the government should cease to operate in a general election year from Nov 3rd to January 20th? Ok got it!
It may undermine a democracy but not a REPUBLIC!
Constitutional Republic... Idiots... Back to coffee
Obamacare was passed in a lame duck session.
But now the Republicans are supposed to play nice and not do anything in a lame duck session (like confirming as many judges as possible before Trump—potentially—leaves office).
Nope. This is just the old “we play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules while the Democrats use street-fight/no-rules” GOP loser talk.
Did Mitt Romney write this article?
I find this writer’s lack of history disturbing. In the election of 1800, states voted from April through October. After the outcome was well known, the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS resigned due to health reasons in December 1800. President Adams nominated John Marshall, then Sec State, and the lame duck Senate confirmed Marshall by February 1801 prior to the next Congress convening in March. In fact, Marshall was Sec State and Chief Justice at the same time! This Congress then passed the Judiciary Act of 1801 and Adams proceeded to pack the courts prior to Jefferson’s inauguration. Talk about lame duck shenanigans!
p.s. What nugget did Marshall leave in the Sec State desk for his successor?
A lame duck Congress can shirk responsibility for bad lawmaking and overspending.
Congress does that all the time, not just during lame duck sessions.
Judson Phillips is an idiot. I’ve noticed more and more that Townhall.com is being infiltrated by incompetent liberals.
We don’t even have democracy because there’s no such thing as a vote anymore!
Is the author going to apply the same stupid logic to Trump’s lame duck authority?
Why is this garbage being posted in Townhall?
