As Twitchy reported last week, Voxs Ian Millhiser was doing the math on how much it would cost a billionaire like Michael Bloomberg to literally pay Democrats to move to sparsely populated red states in order to flip the Senate blue. Millhisers ingenious plan was to pay 80,000 Democrats $50,000 each to live in Wyoming long enough to vote in a Senate election. Maybe not so remarkably, a ton of gender studies majors working as baristas in New York City were anxious to sign up; some even thought theyd be doing the people of Wyoming a favor by importing culture to their dreary lives. Community theater, yall!
This story is a few days old, but its new to us thanks to Allie Beth Stuckey, who tweeted about it Tuesday. Since Georgias rules are messed up and because neither incumbent David Perdue nor challenger Jon Ossoff won more than 50 percent of the vote, the states Senate race is headed to a runoff in January and if they could just get enough Democrats to establish residency there long enough to vote
"Democrats are advocating for blue voters to become Georgia residents for the upcoming runoff elections. Georgia doesnt have a minimum residency requirement, which poses a legal loophole for both parties." @BrianKempGA ?! https://t.co/lDKeyVa7uq
...
Additionally, the states voter I.D. laws allow individuals to use an out-of-state drivers license to vote.

Bad gateway
It maybe temporary overload.
Moving on up.
The Jefferson’s.
Doesn’t sound like the Democrats are planning to obey this law given this article.
They can still register to vote...and are apparently hoping it doesn’t get caught that they weren’t registered for the prior election. A suit needs to filed to make sure new voters do not end up on the voter lists for this runoff.
I wonder if they did that for the general election - brought people in from deep blue states to take up temporary residence to tip the state into Biden’s favor?
I would love to escape the Iowa winter for a while. Maybe I should move in with my liberal aunt and tell her I’m there to vote for the Republicans. :-)
Hmm, that says electors not voters. Isn’t that different?
Come to think of it, I don’t see how this would work. Wouldn’t they have to put a deposit on some sort of dwelling? They couldn’t just check into a hotel and claim residency could they?
Real Georgians, or real residents of any state, ought to be outraged when that happens.
yes they could just check into a motel, use that address vote and leave-or hell just have someone else vote for them
That is bizarre. So anybody even traveling through Georgia could claim to be a resident and vote? I think a lot of conservatives from surrounding states might like a road trip.
Love it!
It seems odd to me too, but in context the only definition of "elector" that makes sense in this statute is "voter." The statute refers to presidential electors specifically as presidential electors.
Legalese is not quite English.
I think I’ll go have a drink. *sigh*
If you are correct - and who am I to doubt you? :-) - then this should be a done deal. None of these people will be allowed to vote, or will the Dems find a crooked judge to say differently?
Ha! I am not a lawyer, and there are plenty of reasons why I might be wrong. I just thought the language of the statute was clear.
George legislature needs to pass an emergency law to last for 90 days....
Every Damn Yankee wanting to claim residency and register to vote must pay taxes for this year to Georgia first...
Poll tax you say ???
Well its a tax for poll cats...
I mailed the Georgia statute 21-2-501 to both Perdue and Loeffler.
Georgia has apparently accepted that a federal consent order overrides the applicable section of Georgia statute 21-2-501.

Looks like new voter registration by 12/7 will be accepted.
