What happened in South Texas? The Hispanic vote swept to Trump.

The GOP did very well in Texas.  It also did very well in South Texas, as we see in this report from The Dallas Morning News:

While Biden carried the vote in the Rio Grande Valley, he did so with a much tighter margin than Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. That erosion — in an area considered a Democratic stronghold — is a warning sign to the party as it tries to flip the state.

It also serves as a stark reminder that the Latino vote is diverse, especially in a state the size of Texas. And that Democrats cannot take it for granted.

How did that happen?  Fire the consultant who told you that all Hispanics hate Trump.  Yes, some do but lots of them don't!

GOP candidates wrapped the "law and order" message around every Democrats neck and it worked.  Defund the police turned out to be the mother of all political losing messages.  There are many Hispanics who serve as police officers in South Texas.  I'm sure that they voted for President Trump.  Going forward, I think that many Texas Democrats want to put "defund the police" in the trash and let the truck pick it up Wednesday.

Most of all, we learned this year that Hispanics need to be courted.  The Trump campaign visited the area and organized events in the valley and the Texas-Mexico border.  It turned out to be a plus for the GOP

The effect of illegals coming to America and taking jobs is to depress the wages of those who may work in those jobs. This should be made very clear to all those at the entry level and lower paying jobs. If you don't want to work for X dollars per hour we can always find an illegal who will work for those wages or less. And you can be happy on 0 dollars per hour.

Then connect the open borders crowd quite unambiguously with the worker's penury.

Many Hispanics are more sophisticated than other minority voters. And Cuba & Venezuela are close by examples of what socialism can do to a country.

Why people with IQ higher than room temperature can not learn from Germany? Before unification West Germany was capitalist, East was socialist/communist. Same people, same intellectual capacity, same culture. Yet the prosperity difference was Yuge. Learn from actual examples, not college professor’s theoretical mumbo jumbo.

The problem for democrats with the Hispanic vote is not culturally ingrained like the Black vote. There was a study a while back that showed that democrats only did well with first generation Hispanics, which the won by about an 80/20 margin, by 2nd generation that had dropped to 60/40 and by third generation, Hispanics actually voted Republican in greater numbers than white voters. Which I assume is why democrats want to keep the illegal immigration train running and legalize as many 1st generation Hispanics as they can, unfortunately in doing so they may be shooting themselves in the foot a generation or two down the line.

But it says here Dems still won the region. What do you think the numbers will be after amnesty?

Graham and Rubio will use the Trump Hispanic vote to push amnesty. Guaranteed. And it would almost certainly work with a Dem House and WH.

Have lived in South Texas my whole life 70+ years

2/3s of my friends are Hispanic.
Some intermarried family members are Hispanic.
70% of the people I work with are Hispanic.

There are two huge points liberals cannot accept:

Hispanics do NOT like people moving across the boarder freely and taking jobs - no matter what color they are. Never have since I was a kid, and don't like it now.

Hispanics do NOT like black people. I have several black friends, and there are many of my Hispanic friends that I am careful to NEVER have around them because of their feelings. I don't know where it comes from or why, but it IS there. The Democraps that thought this embracing the whole Black Lives Matter idea was a winner - were greatly mistaken.

ITs interesting that you mentioned Germany.

When I was active Army, we were stationed for six years in Germany. (2003-2009)

First three were in western Germany near Frankfurt, the other three in Bavaria near Nuremburg.

The infrastructure, lay of the land, ect all had a similar “feel” since this was all at one time West Germany.

One weekend, my wife an I decided to Drive up to Berlin. In doing this, we went through what used to be East Germany. Even almost 20 years later, I didn’t even need a sign, or to confirm on a map...I could TELL WITHOUT A DOUBT when we went into what used to be East Germany.

Huge barracks-like buildings in the middle of fields where workers had to live that worked those fields. thinner roads, less developed villages with poor structural integrity to the buildings...its was just “weird”...and I could feel the echos of the misery of living there, 20 years later.

I’ve read accounts of teachers in inner city schools with mostly black and Latino students. The two groups despised each other.

Preach it, brother. 60+ years in Texas and you speak G-ds truth. Hispanics are not as ‘tribal’ as blacks and are generally more intelligent. That statement is not an insult nor is it racially motivated. Anyone who has spent a lot of time around a blend of these folks can see it whit a blindfold on.

Another possible factor in the large Hispanic vote is that Hispanics appreciate real men, men with steel backbones, large cojones, and grit. Trump is perceived in that way. Trump and Slo-Joe are as opposite in that department as is possible.
