Eighty-eight year old Romero is a founding member of the pro-statehood New Progressive Party. He served as mayor of the island's capital San Juan from 1969 to 1977, governor from 1977 to 1985, and Resident Commissioner (Puerto Rico's non-voting delegate in Congress) from 1993 to 2001. His daughter's description of him as a "gladiator" is appropriate given his many years as a fighter in Puerto Rico's tumultuous political arena.

I’ve met maybe 2 Puerto Ricans that are conservative.
The rest just love their gubmit and social programs.
