Collin County is the center of a political storm as the Texas suburbs become more competitive for Democrats
WFAA ^ | 11/02/2020 | Patrick Svitek

Six years ago, Collin County was so solidly Republican that many of its representatives in Austin and Washington didn’t even draw Democratic opponents. Now three of them find themselves in their most competitive November races yet.

It is one sign of how quickly the political environment has shifted in the suburban county north of Dallas, which is now an emerging battleground important to understanding Texas in 2020. Unlike some suburban counties in 2018, Collin did not flip in statewide results — but a once-overwhelming GOP advantage continued to narrow and next week’s election could be the tipping point.

I lived in Collin County Texas, north Dallas suburb, for more than thirty years. It was a cow pasture/prairie when I moved there and always conservative. A place everyone in the DFW metro moved to raise their kids, it was safe and conservative. BUT, no more! Glad I bailed out when I did. California came to stay.

Allen, TX resident here. We’ll see how true this is after tomorrow. I think the GOP will do just fine in Collin County.

I live in Collin County and this is fake news. There might be a couple of rat holes here, but the county is soundly Republican.

That is a good point. There are a lot of people from India voting in a way that defies logic. They left a crap-hole only to come here and vote for one.

2016: Trump 55% ///Clinton 39%

Per TargetSmart: Republicans 62%///Democrats 24% turnout so far in early voting.

Yes, I know TS has it’s critics. But it is a Democrat firm. And they show Collin turnout is even more Republican than 4 years ago.

I guess these Texas suburbanites who flirted with Beto finally figured out that he was part of a socialist agenda. They have flipped back.

Glad I bailed out when I did. California came to stay.

Californians moving to Lone Star never learned from despoiling their litter box back home. There are no teachable moments when it comes to liberals. They are beyond puppy training even when their nose is rubbed in it. They just find another litter box to mess up. We’re getting some in Az too. The first wave was Orange County Republicans fleeing the Dem mess back home. Now their Dem tormenters are following them out here. Ugh!

Actually, this doesn’t defy logic. The ‘rats are the ones pushing H1B, and that is why the Indians are here. Prime constituency.

First thing: F O.

Next, I lived in Plano from way long ago. It is NOTHING, no where close to as conservative as it was in the past. Don’t be stoopid. The (D) wave is moving in and that is exactly why I left. Just knock on the doors in any Plano neighborhood and see how you feel. A very large percentage of real estate is owned by Chinese investors and are now rental properties. If you do a small amount of research into the demographic change maybe you will get it.

Yes they would get it, if they ever looked. Not long ago, Collin along with neighboring Denton County routinely gave Republicans huge margins; Republicans getting 70-80% of the vote (if even contested at all at some levels) was the norm.

Trump got a lower % of the vote here in 2016 than any Republican candidate (true 3-way races aside) since Barry Goldwater. He still won in '16 and may win again in '20 but the areas immediately north of the Metroplex have noticeably deteriorated in recent years, demographically speaking, and it's only a matter of a short period of time before they complete the transition from purple to red (correct color usage). The northern parts of the counties may stay good a little longer, but as whole Collin and Denton are 5-10 years away -- at most -- from being very Democrat-friendly areas.

It’s going to depend on the Indian vote here. The wealthy ones, may be solid Republican voters.

I’m amazed at how simple minded folks think just because their little circle is RED conservative then the entire area ‘must’ be too. I agree with you 100%. the next election in 2024 may very well go Blue(D). Just stop by ANY park in the city of Plano and walk around for a few minutes. ANY elementary school, big-box store or restaurant and you will quickly see what is happening. I was stunned when I sold my home. I had four full-price offers in five days—ÅLL of them from mainland Chinese investors! They sent agents to the homes to do a walk around and take notes, next couple hours the offers popped up. Glad I’m gone.
