“why is it that so many Jews vote strongly Democrat?????”

I think many Jews are SJW by nature, political first, especially the more liberal factions. They fought and marched for the blacks during equal rights battles seeing a relation to their own historical plight. They also may even support Palestinian causes over national Israel seeing Israel as an oppressor there. They tend to be more political than religious.

That said, the more Orthodox, the more they seem to lean right from my experience. I am Jewish though not highly observant religiously but have friends in the Chasidic communities and most I know have long leaned conservative.

According to my ultra-Orthodox Republican Jewish friend, because all Jews believe in helping fellow people. Support your starving neighbor. Kind of shared idea with Christians.
However, the lefty Jews like the lefty Christians, do not believe in personal responsibility. So then the socialism is the best way to help the people. Feed the poor forever, keep them on dole for generations. Because they really do not believe in God, they believe that the government is the best way to deliver that help?!
Well, if you do not believe in God and personal responsibility, the abortion is the best earthly way to help the mother, I guess.

I don’t understand the necessity some feel to tut tut over aspects of a political leader’s personal life that weren’t illegal and which did not harm others.

- he might’ve been unfaithful to past wives.......even if true, so what? We’re looking for a guy to lead the country. He’s not proposing matrimony to each of us individually.

- He’s rude/insults political opponents.....anybody noticed he does that IN RESPONSE to others who have been nasty to him first? He doesn’t start it. If others do, he hits back. So what? That’s my policy as well. There is an incredibly simple way to avoid being on the receiving end of it.....

- He’s divisive....what the hell was the last guy then? “Bitter....clinging to guns and religion”....”punish our enemies”....”bring a gun to a knife fight”....”you didn’t build that”...etc etc etc. How come I never heard about how divisive the last guy was? Nah. Those who complain about such things almost always sacrificed any credibility they had by not complaining when the last guy did it.

- not Presidential....if by that you mean he’s not an Establishment smooth talking politician who defers to bureaucrats and just seeks to not rock the boat.....GOOD!!! That’s what we voted for!!!! The Establishment got a lot of things wrong. Their trade deals, their constant wars, their inability to make the Yurps pay their fair share of the NATO costs, their willingness to roll over to UN diktats, their inability to bring peace or stability to the Middle East, their selling out America at every turn, their refusal to control the border. They were just W-R-O-N-G about a lot. We needed someone to come in and do the exact opposite of what they said on a whole bunch of issues. No, I don’t care that they went to the Ivy League. They were WRONG about a lot.

I was amazed the change in Israel. Israel was founded by socialist Jews (Kibbutzniks, Labour Party). For long time, it was run by the Labour, in socialist ways, and as a result, Israel was actually quite poor.
Now, thanks to Begin and Netanyahu, the Labour party is practically gone. Israel seems now divided mostly between moderate conservatives and ultra conservatives. Having freed the economy, it is actually becoming pretty innovative and rich!
While we point to Venezuela and Cuba to show the Socialist disasters, we should look to changes in Israel too.

I understand it this way: i would be happiest if we actually could choose character as a metric for a good leader. I opposed Bill Clinton because I thought he had no internal moral compass. If I had the choice between someone who I thought was a wise political leader with whom I disagreed on some things, and an unprincipled SOB who espoused all of the opinions I agree with, I’d be inclined go with the first guy.

That’s far from where we are now and obviously we have no such choice in front of us. Plus in some sense, part of “character” is being willing to oppose the truly screwed up culture of Washington, and I don’t see any other candidate of either party who would do that.

But I think that’s what’s operating. I’d be grateful to know your response. Thanks. JA

I’ve never understood why American Jews vote Democrat. Obama / Biden was very anti-Jewish and anti - Israel.

You are very right.

Trump actually revolutionized the Middle East situation!
Forever, we were fed this “Middle East Peace”, “land for Peace” folly. It never went anywhere!
Basically because the Palestinians (at least a lot of them) do not want the State of Israel exist in any form. Even if it shrunk to a square mile, they will protest and fight it. When Clinton forced the peace deal, Hamas started intifada. They do not want peace deal.
What Trump is doing is depriving the Palestinians of the support by their Arabic brethren. If all Arab states normalize relationships with Israel, the Palestinians will have to accept the reality! Like it or not.

Quantum shift from old, tired, Israel-Palestinian land for peace negotiations, going forever, absolutely nowhere, to working around the Palestinians. Very smart, even I would not think about doing it this way!

Sure. I’d love to have another Ronald Reagan who had a sunny disposition, a pretty spotless personal life and whose views I supported.

But that’s not what is available and in any case, America is not the same country it was in the 1980s. We are far more divided, political and general discourse is far more crude/nasty, there was no Big Tech then and while the media was obviously biased back then, it was not nearly so biased as it is today. I think some blame Trump for creating these things when in reality he is a product of them. He didn’t start this and its not going to end if he goes away.

So I’m asked to choose between a flawed champion who loves America, loves American traditional values, who is great on the economy and who is a real fighter on the one hand, and a corrupt gun grabbing global socialist on the other.

This is not a difficult choice. At all.

Most American Jews live in large urban centers and they tend to vote the way everybody else in large cities vote, which is obviously democrat. It’s not so much they vote that way because they’re Jews, they vote that way because that’s the way people in big cities vote.
