Louisville, Kentucky, police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly has filed a lawsuit against Breonna Taylor's boyfriend, alleging assault, battery and emotional distress after the March 13 shooting at Taylor's apartment.
Police have said that Kenneth Walker fired the shot that struck Mattingly in the thigh that night, NBC News reported.
The lawsuit alleges that Walker's conduct was "outrageous, intolerable and offends all accepted standards of decency and morality."
Although Taylor's address was listed on the warrant, the target of the investigation -- an ex-boyfriend -- lived at a different location, according to NBC News.
Police opened fire in response to a shot fired at them by Taylors boyfriend. That shot reportedly struck Mattingly.
Walker, a licensed gun owner, has said he thought the officers were intruders, according to CBS News.

“””Okay, so I was going along okay until this: “Walker, a licensed gun owner,...””””
I’m not sure what a licensed gun owner is. I don’t have a license and up until the tragic boating accident I had numerous guns.
There is no registration or required licensing in Kentucky and we are a constitutional carry state.
But the state does issue, on a shall issue basis, concealed carry permits (CCDW) which are useful for people who may travel in reciprocal states.
The police have claimed that this was not a no-knock raid. I haven’t heard whether they pounded on the door and shouted or tapped, whispered and then knocked down the door.
A reasonable person would not suddenly open fire on the cops busting down his door is he knew they were the cops, and knowing that they would likely return fire.
That is very strong evidence that they did not identify themselves adequately to let the people inside know who they were.
I hear Breonnaville is lovely this time of year....the BLM Octoberfest is known for it’s delicious pigs in a blanket, fry em like bratwurst sandwiches
Yeah. I have one of those. I had to check the reciprocity map when I drove from KY to Seattle a few weeks ago.
The local press here “sounds” non-biased, but they are only sharing Walker’s side.
Fact is, Walker “May” be able to claim castle doctrine, but the cops can also claim self defense. And If you shoot at them, you’re getting more than one bullet back. A lot more.
True, that is why I qualified my response by using the word “required”. Kentucky is ranked the #6 most progun state in America as a result of getting constitutional carry passed last year, something that just barely happened, and if the current commie in the governor’s office had his say I am sure would try to reverse in a heart beat.
Louisville used to be a nice hometown, now anything inside the downtown area is a massive suckfest of chaos, graffiti, and anarchy in the night time as evidenced by police scanner alerts I get. I am looking to get out of Jefferson county.
My brother lives in the Highlands....we have prickly relationship....he hates my passion for politics, and loves to describe himself as Mr. Independent Centrist....haven’t spoken to him since early June, when the riots were just starting to heat up....he was going on and on about Breonna Taylor, and how Trump will win KY by a much smaller margin this time, Biden’s gonna kick Trump’s ass, blah, blah....this was before BLM started terrorizing local businesses on Bardstown and downtown, and camping out on Daniel Cameron’s lawn....LOL, I wonder what he’s thinking now
So very true. We moved to the Louisville area over 30 years ago...from Cincinnati. We lived in the ville for about 5 years, before moving over to the sunny side of Louisville in southern Indiana. However, our now three grown sons and their families are back over in Louisville, again. Two of them live in the Germantown and Highlands area. The other one, in the East End. Scary how it has changed so much!! You are right...the downtown is full of chaos, graffiti, etc.
I think it might be a pre-emptive lawsuit to discourage a lawsuit from Walker, basically negotiating leverage. A settlement that consists of basically agreeing to drop the suit in exchange for not suing the officer is highly likely.
This whole mess is because serving warrants at 0 dark 30, knock or no knock are a bad idea and should be illegal. The cost and danger to both sides, the general public and our human rights are just too great to justify this tactic.
Intersting. Almost everone I have known who tried to claim they werw “centrist” were closet leftists playing rope-a-dope for the long game.
I havn’t been to the Highlands in years. With Wild-n-Wooly video gone I have no interests down there now.
The world is upside down now. Before you know it Pope Francis will have Breonna Taylor and her crew canonized.
