For Christian readers, this is a good article to forward to your friends. It is written in a very gracious manner, especially evidenced in the opening and closing paragraphs. Wayne Grudem is also an exceptionally fine Christian thinker. He has written the most-used systematic theology textbook in evangelical seminaries.

We are talking about the future of America . . . a country created by God to evangelize the world. There is no room for fence sitters in the ministry who do nothing more than lead their flock astray.

I agree with all of that, and I like Piper.

But....Piper’s position here is absurd, and laughable, if it weren’t so lamentable. Honestly....I think it’s Piper’s pride which is at work here. He wants to be relevant. But there’s so much wrong with what he’s saying, it would take me two hours to sift through it, and it’s not worth the effort.

This bears reading by all Christians. Should the US fall next week to socialism then there will only be one sanctioned church and men like Piper will be the accepted ones. All who have preached or tolerated the social gospel will be licensed by the new department of religion.

In my haste to post this article, in the heading, I accidentally listed the author as being John Grudem. Obviously, it is written by Wayne Grudem.

Thanks for posting. It is a well written and thoughtful response.

However I think the author spent way more time on the response than it deserved. Piper has exposed his irrational thought processes. It goes way beyond Piper’s feeling about Trump. It shows that that he is mentally deficient and can’t be trusted as a teacher or preacher.

Grudem reflects the view of the traditional fundamentalist; Piper represents the SJW evangelical. Evangelicals and Fundamentalists are NOT the same.

“He has written the most-used systematic theology textbook in evangelical seminaries.”

It’s OK but a lot of the verses he cites don’t really support the point he is making.

Grudem:

Americans are perfectly free to say, “Trump’s boastfulness offends me and I don’t want to act that way myself.” But if laws are passed (and upheld by the courts) that enforce the LGBT agenda, no creative professional like a cake decorator (or photographer or florist) will be free to say, “I believe same-sex marriage is morally wrong, and I won’t use my artistic talent to decorate a cake celebrating same-sex marriage.” No high school girl will be free to say, “I won’t undress and change clothes for my gym class because there are boys in the locker room who claim to be girls.” No Christian adoption agency will be free to say, “We will not place children with same-sex couples.”

There is a difference between the personal influence of a leader’s example, which may be rejected, and laws that compel obedience.

And yet they want to give Biden a pass on: Corruption - not a Christian value, promoting godless Communism, not a Christian value, adultery - not a Christian value as he stole his wife from her husband, Lying - constant and well documented to the point of stealing Neil Kinnock’s life, promoting immorality and arguably sex trafficking through his vile offspring Hunter?

Speaking simply for myself, I cannot fathom how ANY true believing Christian could consider voting for any individual who is a democrat. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

The personal sins of a leader can be as harmful to persons and to nations as morally evil laws.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

The Bible is filled with flawed men God used for His purpose.

I’m wondering if King David got the memo that personal behavior is a deal killer?

Bottom line: We are not voting for Trump to be leader of all men to God, we are voting for a person to run the government.

Which one will run it better?

Imagine actually thinking Trump’s bragging is a sin. What’s he supposed to do? Say he’s the worst millionaire real estate investor ever?

the other candidate who is guilty of sins of “unrepentant sexual immorality” and “unrepentant boastfulness”

Solomon was boastful and sexually immoral, but God still picked him for the top job.

I’ll let God worry about bringing people to repentance. I’ll worry about whether the person seems intent on steering our country into the rocks or not.

Thank you, Mr. Grundem for your thoughtful reply on my behalf. I love Pastor John Piper and have read many countless of his excellent books, but Pastor Piper was wide of the mark with his article/commentary.

I deeply love Jesus with supremacy, and in the that I continue to earnestly beseech the Lord that Donald J Trump is reelected.
