CNN Investigations - Weird science: How a 'shoddy' Bannon-backed paper from a Chinese virologist on Coronavirus origins made its way to an audience of millions
CNN ^ | 10/21/2020 | By Rob Kuznia, Scott Bronstein, Drew Griffin and Curt Devine,

It was a blockbuster story. A respected Chinese virologist appeared on Tucker Carlson's show on Fox News in mid-September to share the results of her just-completed report. The conclusion: The novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19 was likely engineered in a Chinese lab. On Carlson's show, she claimed it was intentionally released into the world.

Then, its validity began to unravel. The publication of the paper by lead author Li-Meng Yan -- an expatriate from China seeking asylum in the US -- was quickly linked to former White House adviser Steve Bannon, long a strident critic of China's government. The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security -- a leading authority on the pandemic -- criticized the science behind the report, and pointed out that Yan and her co-authors "cite multiple papers in their reference section that have weaknesses or flaws."

A CNN review of Yan's research found it was also built on what appears to be the same theories, similar passages and identical charts presented by an anonymous blogger whose writings were posted on a website linked to Bannon months earlier. Additionally, a source told CNN the three co-authors of Yan's paper used pseudonyms instead of their real names, a practice frowned upon in scientific and academic work. Yet, even after Facebook slapped a "false information" flag on Carlson's September 15 interview with Yan and Twitter suspended Yan's account, Carlson, Bannon and Yan have pressed forward.

"You'd think that our media would want to get to the bottom of this pandemic," Carlson said on his October 6 show, "but instead they ignored her claims." Yan -- who is back on Twitter -- published a second report on October 8 titled "SARS-CoV-2 is an Unrestricted Bioweapon," which doubled down on the theory that the virus sweeping the globe was manmade

Shoddy? Like the original paper against ‘Trump pills’?

Here’s the thing, rather than focus on Bannon and pseudonyms, CNN has the ability to question Yan herself. She’s out there and I haven’t heard that she is refusing interviews. But CNN doesn’t REALLY want to hear what Li-Meng Yan has to say, do they?

Shoddy, like Russia, Russia, Russia and Clinton campaign opposition research smears passed off as fact by FBI and CIA?

So, her report is shoddy because she has some vague connection to Steve Bannon? In Philosophy 101, you learn that one of the weakest forms of argument is the "ad hominum" argument, which focuses on discrediting the messenger instead of using logic and evidence to argue against the message.

As for the fact that some of her co-authors used pseudonyms, that might be because their lives or their families lives might be in danger if they used their real names. Either that, or they fear "cancel culture" which tries to destroy anyone who has a minority view on a topic. Dissent is not allowed.

We are told that investigation of Hunter’s laptop is compromised because of chain of custody issues.

The media overlooks the investigation of the DNC server was compromised because the FBI was refused access to investigate and the private firm hired to look didn’t have the skills to do so.

That's quite an admission by the mediots that the feebs are corrupt/compromised seeing as the feebs collected the original laptop and an agent who is supposedly the got to guy for investigating pedos like hunter signed off on it.

Maybe Fake News CNN should do an expose on how the Clinton/Steele Dossier, which was 100% FAKE MADE UP CRAP, spread around the world.

Dr. Daniel Lucey, an infectious-disease epidemics expert at Georgetown University, is a little bit more sympathetic to Dr. Yan’s paper. He actually kept an open mind.

Lucey told CNN that he met with Yan in person to discuss her paper on September 6 — eight days before it was published.

His criticism was more muted than that of the other scientists who spoke with CNN; Lucey said he found some of what Yan had to say noteworthy. Ultimately, though, he said he disagrees with Yan’s conclusion and told her he couldn’t vouch for her science because he’s not a molecular virologist.

Lucey said at one point, after much back and forth, he asked Yan a big-picture question: Why would China release a government-engineered virus in Wuhan? Lucey said Yan couldn’t provide an answer that he considered plausible.
Lucey said he believes the virus originated in nature. But he disagrees with the much-publicized theory that it jumped from an animal to a human at a seafood market in December.

“Based on what I know about how epidemics have started, I think that it was at least several months earlier,” he said. “It could have been out there for more than a year (before December). It’s possible.”

Dr. Li-Meng Yan shows the evidence in her two reports that are not long and everyone can read, the coronavirus is manufactured and spread intentionally by the Chinese Communist Party.

LuDe and Yan are part of the anti-CCP whistleblower movement, along with Miles Guo.

Kind of like them saying “look a squirrel” at Bannon and ignoring this whole network.

In a related story, a shoddy ‘news organization’ (CNN) produces its usual covid fear porn and political attack on someone because they worked for Trump for a while.

After watching the Chris Martinson YouTube videos, I think it is most probably an accidentally release virus created in the Wuhan lab using gain of function techniques. As best I understand it some takes an existing virus (or an existing virus with an inserted important inserted foreign DNA strand) and forces that strain to evolve through many generations in a petri dish full of human cells.
The resulting virus is then more adapted to infect people. The idea is then to study this new more dangerous virus (not to release it to your own population).

1. The virus came from bats is an established fact.
2. The virus enters the human cell via the ace ( angiotension converting enzyme) receptor is established fact.
3. The virus has more affinity for the human ace receptor than the ace receptor in bats is established fact.
4. Was the release accidental or deliberate? Probably both.
5. Was an act of bio warfare done by China? Yes most definitely.

Number 3 is very odd. As a virus mutates over many years it attunes itself to its native host. That is why many diseases of animals do not cross over to humans but some do. The fact that this virus is more attuned to humans than its original host is proof positive the original bat virus was modified in the lab to be more infectious to humans.

Number 4 is subject to debate. I myself think it was a lab accident at a bio warfare lab in Wuhan that started the Pandemic. China knew they had a problem and knew they would take a huge economic hit. They locked down Wuhan but allowed international flight in and out to spread the virus to the rest of the world so the world would take the same or worse economic hit.

Relative to Number 5, the fact China let the disease spread intentionally was an act of Bio Warfare.

Yep, these fearless fact-checkers from Fbook and Twit have proved this false! BUT WAIT ... Isn't one of these fact-checkers outsourced to the PRC? Isn't that convenient!

Bats have been studied in the USA as disease vectors for decades.

At least 40 years ago, as cave explorers we were warned to beware of actual contact with bats that were very common in many caves

No one from the ‘Scientific Left’ (eg Dr Angela Rasmussen) have said specifically what in Li Meng’s paper was “laughable”. I was looking for specifics and I didn’t see any.

“long a strident critic of China’s government”

Hilarious

So it’s a bad thing to be a “critic” of the Communist dictatorship?

AT&T really needs investigating over their allegiance to the ChiCom terrorists. All those nice licenses they have need to go bye-bye, be given to US companies not actively carrying water for the Enemy.
