It is unconstitutional without Maryland’s consent, of course.
I think at least the residential areas of DC should be returned to Maryland.
And will make Cuba, South America, Puerto Rica and any other land mass in the Western side of the world in order to get a Democratic aka Demoncratic one party country.
And if GOP wins they should hand back all but the central Federal district that is not inhabited back to Maryland. The DC citizens get a Congress district from Maryland, and their 2 Senators. Problem solved.
Oh yeah, and give Puerto Rico independence. Whether they want it or not.
Let’s make NYC a state, too. And Chicago. And how about LA. Makes just as much sense.
The people of DC should vote in the states from which the district was carved.
Cede it back to Maryland just like the Virginia area was previously ceded back to Virginia.
from Article 4:
Section 3
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Another huge welfare population
RE: Rand Paul: Democrats WILL make DC a state if they win the Election
Yep, that’s the plan. Puerto Rico too.
We need a Constitutional Amendment: 50 states and 9 Supreme Court justices.
I am wondering if it takes more than legislation by Congress alone to make D.C. a state.
Do existing states have any say so in admitting a new state?
President Trump should short circuit this by re-locating Washington government agencies to various states outside D.C. De-swamp it so to speak. Make D.C. a museum to visit but no longer the concentration of political power in the USA.
Many of us do not like, nor respect Lindsey Graham, but should recognize his Republican seat is one of three preventing the dems overtaking the Senate.
Just give it back to Maryland. There, they have their “representation.” Or is this not really about that...?
Then they have a real problem...
IIRC, the seat of the FEDERAL Government can NOT be in any specific state.
That’s why that area is called a DISTRICT.
I don’t think they can do that actually.
If I recall correctly (going back 58 years) the DISTRICT of COLUMBIA was established specifically so that no single State could claim the Capitol of the United States.
The district lines were drawn from land ceded by Virginia and Maryland and to be governed by Congress.
I don’t think Congress is allowed to have it’s own state, at least it shouldn’t.
