Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is planning to spend around $15 million on television advertising in Texas and Ohio during the final week of the presidential campaign to help Democratic candidate Joe Biden defeat President Donald Trump, a Bloomberg spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Statewide ads in Texas and Ohio will run from Wednesday through Election Day next Tuesday.
Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor who lost to Biden in a crowded field for the Democratic nomination, previously vowed to spend up to $100 million of his personal fortune to support Biden in Florida though his super PAC, Independence USA, and other Democratic groups.
Bloomberg asked his team to see polling data from multiple states and after reviewing the numbers on Monday decided to invest additional money to support Biden in Texas and Ohio, the spokesperson said by email, confirming a report in the New York Times.
We believe that Florida will go down to the wire, and we were looking for additional opportunities to expand the map, Bloomberg aide Howard Wolfson told the Times. Texas and Ohio present the best opportunities to do that, in our view.

Whatever happened to campaign finance laws?
But Joe is already beating George by 134%?
Seems like a head fake, no one believes Texas is actually in play. Mikey has enough money to do this sort of thing.
Where are the GOP billionaires spending their money?
A fool and his money . . .
Joe is running for Senator in Ohio. That is why he needs the extra money from Bloomberg.
It won’t be pretty but Bloomberg will have to be severely disciplined after the election.
Maybe they are trying to compete in Ohio but putting a wee bit in TX so they can save face by calling it 'expanding map'?
Or is it down-ticket races in Tayhass?
I am admittedly not the sharpest when it comes to granular cash deployment strategies. It just strikes me as an odd combination.
Talked to members of my family on both political sides, they are wearing out the ‘mute’ buttons on their remotes, muting ads for BOTH presidential candidates. Hate the onslaught of ads.
Trump was smart to focus on GOTV rather than TV ads. TV ads are so last century.
Only $15 million? In Texas?
Why not just for another billion? Fat lot of good his other billion on his campaign did.
After all, it’s only money right?
And you can’t take it with you.
At his age, he’s gotta start thinking of death soon.
Why are there still people out there who think that the Republicans are the big money party?
A media guy helping to bail out the media in those states which are not reaping the benefits of heavy ad buys. That’s all this is.
Is that what his staff found in the couch cushions? Maybe we should have a “wealth tax” for folks like him.
There is wall to wall political adds in the DFW broadcast area.
It’s kind of rendered me numb and I don’t see how an influx of money is going to make any difference.
As it is if they want to run more adds they are going to have to run them at 3 am.
Bloomturd couldnt buy his way to be in Bidens position.
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
