This will be a weekly post.
Count is now 219 judges confirmed.
2 Trade Court judges
162 District Court judges
53 Circuit Court judges
2 Supreme Court justices
On Thursday the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously (with all democrats absent) to report Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett to the Senate floor. While they were there, they also voted several more judges to the floor.
Yesterday Mitch McConnell filed for cloture on Barrett's nomination, with a cloture vote scheduled for tomorrow. With 30 hours of debate thereafter, Judge Barrett is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate late Monday. She will then be Justice Barrett.
Not since Ronald Reagan has a president had three Supreme Court confirmations, and that over eight years (liberals are still crying about Merrick Garland!). Richard Nixon had four in his first term.
Also, Barrett's elevation to the Supreme Court opens up a vacancy on the Seventh Circuit. And Trump has already notified the Senate that he intends to nominate Thomas Kirsch to fill this vacancy. kitsch will no doubt be confirmed by the end of the year and will be Trump's 54th Circuit judge in less than four years. Obama had 55 in EIGHT years.
Pretend you're a Democrat just before the election four years ago, and are told that not only is Trump elected, but the Republicans retain the Senate and keep it in 2018, resulting in 54 Circuit confirmations and THREE Supreme Court justices by the end of 2020.
Amazing.
Till next week...
“Judge Barrett is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate late Monday.”
Good news
GOOD WORK.
Thanks for the post.
One big one coming up....on Hillary Clinton’s birthday!
