Yes you are. The number refers to positive results . They are not cases, only a sum of the positive test results . It includes retakes and false positives. A false positive when discovered is not subtracted from the overall result.

For perspective - the flu kills on average between 34,000 to 43,000 per year in the US and this is typically in less than half a year.
These numbers are from health.com - CDC has a much wider range of numbers listed going back to 2010.
This is the problem with numbers and the panic porn of the media. Covid remains a problem, but we must keep it in perspective.
My friend’s boss got a positive result with the rapid test and a negative result with the invasive test. Both done on the same day.

In CA, counties are literally penalized by not testing “enough.” Therefore each county is working hard to convince more and more healthy people to get tested. We are being told schools can’t reopen until a certain percentage of HEALTHY people are tested—not “enough” people get tested because no one is feeling sick.

How are they defining “cases”? It has been my understanding that “cases” are just some arbitrary numbers put forth by the local-level health department directors.
They can put out whatever number they want, with no requirement to back it up with facts or “science”.
We need to be careful with numbers.2 weeks ago my small county had the highest number of NEW cases of any county in the state..DHEC said it was correct..Almost panic time..2 weeks later oops..mistake..it was an accumulation going back to May.hmm.these numbers can be tricky especially in a election year..

No, CC. You are on the books as something like 75 cases. For each positive test, they are saying there are roughly 15 CASES, because they assume that each positive test patient has possibly infected others.
