Doug Schoen: Trump vs. Biden – Here's who won the debate and what it means for the 2020 election
Fox News ^ | 10/23/20 | Doug Schoen

in my view, President Trump’s performance was measured, on message, and controlled. Thus, for any remaining undecided voters and Republican-oriented voters who may have been discouraged by the president’s chaotic first debate, Trump’s performance Thursday night likely reassured them and may even have led some to resolve to cast ballots in his favor.

Moreover, the president’s performance reinforces an argument I made in a Fox News op-ed earlier this week: that Biden is ahead, but his victory is not a forgone conclusion. And make no mistake, it is within the realm of possibility that Trump will stage a comeback that is reminiscent of his upset victory in 2016.

During the debate, Biden held his own for the most part, and his performance is not likely to dissuade any voters or impact his polling position.

However, as the night went on, Biden’s performance slowly diminished. He struggled to come up with coherent answers to pressing questions from Trump about controversial topics — such as receiving funds from Russian sources — other than to issue blanket denials and turning the accusation back onto Trump.

Further, Biden committed a number of gaffes throughout the night, including making a misplaced Hitler reference that confounded pundits across the aisle.

“Having a good relationship with leaders of other countries is a good thing,” Trump said of his relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Biden shot back, “That's like saying we had a good relationship with Hitler before he in fact invaded Europe.”

Yesterday I drove over 100 miles on a leaf-peeping trip through my beautiful western Pennsylvania. I was in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Every small town I drove through to get to elk country was plastered with Trump signs and flags. “Drain the Swamp” signs, giant Trump flags flying below American flags on tall flag poles, Trump placards propped up in farm fields, homemade Trump signs on farm wagons. Signs that said that Trump would end the bullshit. In one small town, every front yard along the main street had Trump signs; the entire street was lined with them on both sides of the street.

These are real working people—frack workers, farmers, coal miners, people who keep the country going. The people Democrats claim they represent. All I could think was that I was so proud of these people—the forgotten Americans who aren’t afraid to give the middle finger to the Washington establishment and the media.

Biden isn’t going to win Pennsylvania if these rural folks in the western and northwestern part of the state have anything to say about it.

...this author is not a talented analyst.

He has a perfect record of losses, IIRC. Although, to his credit, when he sees the inevitable ahead, he drops his candidate like a hot rock and starts writing something resembling the truth.

Typical D consultant.

Yet the media keep saying he is ahead!

They also said he won last night, or at the least, it was a tie. And they said it while displaying downcast visages.
