Doug Schoen: Trump vs. Biden – Here's who won the debate and what it means for the 2020 election
Fox News ^ | 10/23/20 | Doug Schoen

Posted on 10/22/2020 11:20:05 PM PDT by conservative98

in my view, President Trump’s performance was measured, on message, and controlled. Thus, for any remaining undecided voters and Republican-oriented voters who may have been discouraged by the president’s chaotic first debate, Trump’s performance Thursday night likely reassured them and may even have led some to resolve to cast ballots in his favor.

Moreover, the president’s performance reinforces an argument I made in a Fox News op-ed earlier this week: that Biden is ahead, but his victory is not a forgone conclusion. And make no mistake, it is within the realm of possibility that Trump will stage a comeback that is reminiscent of his upset victory in 2016.

During the debate, Biden held his own for the most part, and his performance is not likely to dissuade any voters or impact his polling position.

However, as the night went on, Biden’s performance slowly diminished. He struggled to come up with coherent answers to pressing questions from Trump about controversial topics — such as receiving funds from Russian sources — other than to issue blanket denials and turning the accusation back onto Trump.

Further, Biden committed a number of gaffes throughout the night, including making a misplaced Hitler reference that confounded pundits across the aisle.

“Having a good relationship with leaders of other countries is a good thing,” Trump said of his relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Biden shot back, “That's like saying we had a good relationship with Hitler before he in fact invaded Europe.”

Biden’s not ahead - that’s just pollsters having a wet dream.

The biggest take from the debate tonite is, Trump showed his world leader/negotiator face. Calm, collected, and never without a rational counterargument that made Biden look uninformed and outdated, like he only got his news from Yahoo.

“Biden held his own for the most part, and his performance is not likely to dissuade any voters or impact his polling position.

However,..”

IMO Joe lost some young voters , and young voter efforts.
That’s serious to him,

Otherwise he performed well enough- he lasted 90 minutes without falling down.

I honestly don’t know if people like that are really clueless enough to think Biden’s leading or if they’re just playing dumb.

What he was saying is Biden is ahead in the polls but do was Hillary and Trump can still win. Schoen is trying to prepare his fellow Dems for a loss.

Biden inadvertently revealing the truth. By the "we" in his Hitler statement he meant the Democrats and liberals in general.

They were the ones who were fans of his fascism. And Hitler was fans of their Jim Crow racism and eugenics.

“I think pollsters saying Biden is ahead are having a pipe dream. There is no way Hiden/Ho are ahead.”

That’s because there is no “ahead” or “behind”. The election hasn’t happened yet. There has been some early voting, but even that is het to be counted.

This is insane the way people talk as if somebody is “ahead“ or “behind“ or catching up.. this is just people guessing - there is no actual score yet.

It is no different than people talking about which horse is ahead in a race that is still weeks away. Obviously, no horse is ahead or behind if the race hasn’t started yet!

It worries me how gullible people are...

And maybe he doesn't want to face Pres. Trump either. I can't spare this man -- he fights!

I agree. I have noticed that the people in the circle of my life that tend not to care much about politics are becoming aware and a few tuned in last night expecting to see an agitated Trump. They got some thing else - which was good. Many of them didn't watch the first debate.

BTW Christie prepped Trump for the first debate and not this one(I assume since he is recovering). Did that impact Trump's demeanor?

Biden is ahead

I would like to think I am NOT living in a bubble but for the life of me I can not square what I am seeing with my own eyes and what the media is reporting.

Biden is up to his neck in a pay for play scandal.

Biden has barely campaigned over the last few months.

Biden’s rallys when he has them are almost non-events.

Biden’s mental health has come under question.

Yet the media keep saying he is ahead!

I hear that “fact” constantly on Fox News. “Biden’s ahead!” they crow on a regular basis, basing this claim on the very same polls that were laughably wrong four years ago (by the very same pollsters). The thing is, they seem to have no memory of the failure of the polls four years ago. They never mention it. They never question the veracity of the current polls because of it.

LOL, I think Melania had more to do with Trump’s demeanor last night. I’m sure he got an earfull from her after the first debate.
