How the United States really ranks globally with COVID-19: Charts tracking infections and deaths per capita shows US isn't the worst - despite having the largest totals (UK reporting, not the US)
Daily Mail ^ | October 22, 2020 | Emily Crane

The United States has the highest number confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in the world amid the ongoing global pandemic.

More than 222,000 Americans have now died from coronavirus and there have been 8.3 million confirmed infections.

But given the large population of the United States, how does the country's coronavirus outbreak track when compared to other countries?

The data shows that a greater proportion of the populations in smaller European, Asian and South American countries are now being infected and dying on a daily basis when compared to the US.

The United States still leads the world with the highest number of total infections, totaling more than 8.3 million

However, when ranking countries per capita - based on total cases per one million people - the US comes in at eighth globally with 25,000 cases per one million.

...

...the rankings of countries based on new cases per day changes when it is compared to the population.

When factoring in new daily per one million people, based on a seven day average, the Czech Republic ranks number one with 928 new cases.

The US ranks 24th with 181 cases per capita.

...

The daily death toll in the US is also the highest in the world with the latest figures showing that more than 1,100 Americans died from the virus died on Wednesday. ...The US, despite having the highest daily toll, ranks 23rd with two deaths per one million people.

You have to leave America to get legit reporting about America vs the fear porn we get Stateside..

This graph is a keeper-despite the ramp-up in cases, the deaths are not rising:

This seems to be due to the rise in cases coming from younger/less susceptible folks:

Per data for North Carolina as of this morning, 95% of fatalities and 86% of hospitalizations are with people 50+ years old. But only 32% of cases are with 50+ year olds - two-thirds are with younger folks.

Similarly, for Ohio as of Oct 20, 1% of the 5,083 COVID19 fatalities but 11% of hospitalization and 36% of the cases and were from people under 40; and 78% of fatalities but 40% of hospitalizations and 13% of cases were from people 70+ years old.

They are not “less susceptible” so much as they just don’t tend to have the comorbidities for CCP-19 to trigger. Same distribution as the common flu in terms of the shape of the curve, just with a greater amplitude.

I hear you, and I agree with the comorbidity point. It'd be interesting to see a study on the existence (or not) of comorbidities by age.

But from the handful of young people who I know that have had the bug, they haven't all been perfectly healthy. Thus I don't know if it is comorbidities or if the young ones are just stronger.

That said, henceforth I'll use comorbidities. Thanks.

Anyone else notice the absolute absence of Biden’s friend, the PRC (China) from these lists? Remember, these are self-reporting and we all know that COVID came from Europe, Democrats are telling us that, right!

The numbers are right there for anyone who cares to look it up. I don’t know why the White House hasn’t been more aggressive about this...

The US by far runs more covid tests per capita than any nation in the world. What these numbers don’t account for is they do not factor in tests run per capita to get the real relative score of covid cases per capita among nations because necessarily a nation running lower numbers of tests per capita is necessarily underreporting the real number pf cases they have vs the US number

“””” More than 222,000 Americans have now died from coronavirus””””

They need to use the correct terminology.

More than 222,000 Americans have now died.

Some definitely because of coronavirus and others from causes nothing to do with the fact they also happened to be covid positive.

We’ll know by Thanksgiving if the recent rise in number of new cases will result in an uptick of deaths.

What a “F”ing lie. there hasn’t been 200000 deaths from Covid. Also why has the regular Flu down 95%? because the hospitals are lying about what people have, and what they die from to intensionally inflate the number$.

The flu season was nearly completely skipped, in the Southern hemisphere. Flu numbers are likely to be low in this hemisphere too — because precautions against spreading Covid work for the flu too.

Flu is down waaay more than that. CDC's own numbers tell us that across the entire nation, so far this flu season, only 162 people have had a positive flu test, with about 52M tests having been conducted. About a 0.2% positivity rate. Even if they are failing to complete influenza testing in order to claim "ChinaVirus" and get their free $$$, their percentage rate of the tests that are conducted is way down. 18-19 was 3.4%.
