Some restaurants in Illinois are defying closure orders as ban on indoor service spreads to Chicago suburbs
CHICAGO TRIBUNE ^ | OCT 22, 2020 | ROBERT MCCOPPIN

Despite Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s recent order to shut down indoor service at bars and restaurants in northwest Illinois due to the coronavirus, Fozzy’s Bar and Grill near Rockford was among those that stayed open.

Owner Nick Fosberg said he had to leave the doors open to keep his employees working, pay his bills and stay in business. He says the workers wear masks, and customers wear masks on their way in and out, while tables are spaced 6 feet apart, at 25% capacity.

“We’re sticking to what we were doing and being safe about it,” he said. “We’re getting a ton of support. People are happy someone finally stood up and said, ‘I’m not closing.’”

The Oct. 3 closure order covering the northwest region of Illinois has the same restrictions coming Friday to DuPage, Kane, Kankakee and Will counties. Four regions of the state have exceeded 8% rate for positive COVID tests, which is one of the state-imposed thresholds for such restrictions, and the rest are trending in that direction.

Jim McQuinn and his dog, Bella, hang out in the bar at Fozzy's Bar & Grill on Oct. 20, 2020 near Rockford. "I'm glad to be out socializing. It's my first time in a bar since January," McQuinn said. (Stacey Wescott / Chicago Tribune)

Now other restaurant owners are declaring they, too, will stay open. The Facebook page of Lockport Stagecoach in Will County, a western-style saloon, states that it will remain open for indoor dining and stand by more than 30 employees who depend on the restaurant for their livelihoods.

“We are NOT trying to be rebellious or are anti-masks, anti-people’s health or any of the other nonsense,” the post stated. “This is a decision out of survival.”

This will all disappear after Nov 4th; it’s a “political flu”.

“This is a decision out of survival.”

Exactly. So many people thrown out of work, lives destroyed, etc. for Socialist Democrat political gain!

It’s maddening!

LIBERATE ROCKFORD! LIBERATE WISCONSIN! LIBERATE AMERICA!

Maybe, maybe not. If President Trump wins, I can see Dem governors leaving the screws on. Media won’t change either.

We’re all adults

If Karens don’t want to risk catching something inside the bar, don’t go.

If you want to go to the bar, you accept the risk.

If you have symptoms, please stay home.

How hard is this to understand?

“We are NOT trying to be rebellious ...”

Geez, is there something wrong with being rebellious? When did it aquire this bad name. Once upon a time you couldn’t be cool or politically correct without it...

Under what authority, name the law, does Porky Pritzker have the right to “order” any business closed?

The left feels real comfortable with authority figures just breathing laws.

There's a kind of run-down old bowling alley near the entrance to a state park not far from where I live (in upstate NY). For years I've driven past it. Steady decline in the number of cars in the lot year-over-year. Not much happened to it, just on a slow slide down. Then last year it had a "for sale" sign out in front.

It was on the market for maybe three months. Finally someone bought it. Went into fix-up mode for a few months. That brings us up to last May or so.

Then they set up a tent in front of the place. Outdoor seating. Picnic tables. Put a folding sign out front: "Burgers and Soft Ice Cream."

A couple of cars visible at first. Then a few cars. Then a decent crowd of cars. Week after week, I saw people under the tent eating food they got inside. No or few masks visible.

Now the parking lot is full, especially on weekend evenings. Cars in the overflow lot out back. I look inside, don't see too many masks. Not sure 'cause I don't go in. No one saying "boo" about it though. This is a Republican county. DA's a Republican, so do the math.

We’re all adults

This is the attitude taken by many, if not most, Republican governors. You’re an adult and can make up your own mind. The virus is very real, it is very dangerous for some. If you are sick, stay home. If you are at risk, avoid crowds.

Democrat governors for some reason really like issuing orders. All bars must close. Bars may open but must serve a meal. Restaurants can only open for outdoor dining. Etc. etc.

My favorite so far is Cal’s Newsom’s order. Thanksgiving meals must be served outside, but guests (only three households) may use toilet indoors, if it is frequently sanitized.

Ditto that for NY, IL, MA. DC, CA etc and dozens of other states.

Maybe, maybe not. This’ll go to the SCOTUS, and the leftists filth will lose.
