A Biden Landslide? Some Democrats Can’t Help Whispering (LOL)
The New York Times ^ | 10/21/2020 | Astead W. Herndon

MACON, Ga. — President Trump held a rally in Georgia on Friday, 18 days before the November general election. It wasn’t a good sign for him.

That Mr. Trump is still campaigning in what should be a safely Republican state — and in others that should be solidly in his column like Iowa and Ohio — is evidence to many Democrats that Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s polling lead in the presidential race is solid and durable. Mr. Trump spent Monday in Arizona, too, a state that was once reliably Republican but where his unpopularity has helped make Mr. Biden competitive.

For some Democrats, Mr. Trump’s attention to red states is also a sign of something else — something few in the party want to discuss out loud, given their scars from Mr. Trump’s surprise victory in 2016. It’s an indication that Mr. Biden could pull off a landslide in November, achieving an ambitious and rare electoral blowout that some Democrats think is necessary to quell any doubts — or disputes by Mr. Trump — that Mr. Biden won the election.

On one level, such a scenario is entirely plausible based on the weeks and the breadth of public polls that show Mr. Biden with leads or edges in key states.

No, but the early voting is showing we are very strong. The GOP is going to vote 80/20 in person, so if we are tied in the early vote or leading, we are in very good shape. We did an excellent job in registration.

“If GOP Senators are depending on Trump to drag them over the line it suggests there is something seriously wrong with the quality and performance of these Senators.“

I disagree.

Leftist propaganda is much harder to fight at the state and local level.

Legislators are judged not by whether they defend the Constitution or put America first in trade policy - but rather by whether or not they can bring home the bacon for their state or locality - whether they can win at the wealth redistribution game (which is entirely a Leftist construct).

Persuading voters to reject Leftist lies is hard enough for a POTUS, but it is that much harder down-ticket.

A US Senator is supposed to decide on federal law - defend the US constitution - but when he campaigns for re-election he is held to account for how his particular state is faring - conflicts abound.

If senators are expected to be loyal to their party’s national agenda, and support the President at the top of the ticket - a wise POTUS will return the favor and campaign hard in their state races.

Trump hasn’t done a rally in CA. He did a fundraiser, then hit NV (which is in good position to flip).

I agree that registration has been great, which is one of the reasons why I am so optimistic about this election. But we dismiss articles like these at our own peril. If I had a nickel for every time a FReeper mentioned a red tsunami in 2018 I’d be rich.

Trump is getting out the vote in early voting states like Ohio. He is shoring up supporters ’ motivation to cast their ballots.
