Biden: Muting mics at debate 'a good idea'

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden praised the Commission on Presidential Debates' decision to mute the candidates' microphones while the other is speaking at the upcoming debate in Nashville, saying the forums need more limitations.

"I think it's a good idea," Biden told Milwaukee's ABC affiliate WISN on Tuesday. "I think there should be more limitations on us not interrupting one another."

"If you noticed last time, according to Chris Wallace, he interrupted the president and me 148 times," Biden added. "I hope [Trump] is going to come prepared to talk about what he's for, but my guess is, he's kind of signaling that it's going to all be about personal attacks because he doesn't want to talk about why he's taking away health care at the time we're in the middle of a pandemic, why he has no plan for health care, why he hasn't provided the money to allow businesses the ability to reopen, why he's not dealing with unemployment, etc."

"But I'm going to try very had to focus on the issues that affect the American people, and talk to them," he said.

The commission announced on Monday it was adopting the rule in the wake of the last debate between Trump and Biden where it was at times not possible to clearly hear the candidates due to interruptions.

“Both campaigns this week again reaffirmed their agreement to the two-minute, uninterrupted rule. The Commission is announcing today that in order to enforce this agreed upon rule, the only candidate whose microphone will be open during these two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor under the rules,” the commission said in a Monday evening statement.

“For the balance of each segment, which by design is intended to be dedicated to open discussion, both candidates’ microphones will be open,” it said.

The Trump campaign initially voiced its disapproval for the commission’s announcement, but said the president would still participate "regardless of last minute rule changes from the biased commission in their latest attempt to provide advantage to their favored candidate.”

His hubris tells him he can handle anything and it could cost him the election

Oh stop. The President would be slammed either way...if he backs out of a second debate or if he goes forward with it. His best choice is to go forward and try to make lemonade out of very sour lemons.

I disagree entirely, the biased debate commission has inadvertently helped Trump even though neither one of them is aware of it. After Trump's performance in the first debate, we can only hope that he refrains from alienating every suburban housewife in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Wisconsin with interruptions during those periods of the debate in which he is possessed of a live mic.

You watch. Trump will talk over the muted mic and they will black out the debate untilTrump stops talking. All questions will go to Trump and will be questions based on false premises. He will have to prove it false and then answer it. That cannot be done in 2 minutes. They will ask Biden fewer questions and he’s already been provided with them. His dealings with Hunter and China will not be mentioned.
In Oregon last night, they blocked a Trump commercial and substituted a toilet paper commercial!

Biden isn’t going to be the one in power. That’s obvious.

Just use your two minutes to go on about how Biden took a cut of every deal Hunter did for him and watch him squirm

Wait, Biden did an interview, and they didn’t ask him the elephant in the room question?

Scott Adams agrees with you—says that this will help Trump and will have the unintended effect of making Trump appear more “presidential” (not interrupting) which some undecided voters may want to see in order to feel more “comfortable” voting for him.

Trump should just do what Pence did—use the next question to go back and respond to the prior question and counter any lies Biden makes.

It would be a good idea if it was to mute the Democrat moderator for the entire debate.

Anything that sounds like censorship makes tingles run up and down Democrat’s legs.

Trump is walking straight into an ambush.

Obviously, but President Trump has been fearlessly walking into ambushes every day during his presidency. He has been the point man 24/7 facing unbelievable opposition even from those supposedly his political allies. But he fights back and is a strong man with the Good Lord and patriotic Americans on his side.

He Joe. You were the first to try interrupting and you got smacked in the gob with a left uppercut and a right roundhouse for it. And then it was constant body blows after that. So yeah, turning your mike off and letting the other guy speak is a great idea.

It’s not a debate because Biden has nothing to debate why even bother with it.
He’s already proved how goofy he is and has nothing to offer except another Obama rerun crash.

Pres. Trump should hire a lip reader to tell us what SloJo says when his mic is turned off.

Yep, as the (nominal) leader of the Cancel Culture Party he would naturally be delighted.
