As Democrats do all they can to keep the Hunter Biden influence-peddling scandal out of the press, there are also conservatives, who, citing conventional wisdom about political scandals, argue that President Trump is going to lose the election by pounding on the issue.
Here's Frank Luntz, as reported by The Hill:
Prominent Republican pollster Frank Luntz blasted President Trump and his campaign on Tuesday for focusing on Hunter Biden in the stretch run to Election Day, calling Trump’s campaign the worst he’s ever seen and saying the president’s advisers should be “brought up on charges of political malpractice.”
Speaking at a briefing for the British strategic advising company Global Counsel, Luntz said Trump’s advisers have “their heads up their asses” if they think Hunter Biden will be a winning issue for them.
Here's National Review's Isaac Schorr:
The Trump campaign’s decision to make Hunter a centerpiece also took away valuable oxygen that could have been used in far more productive ways. Trump’s path to victory is an issues-oriented election, not one based on the character of the two major-party candidates. The American people have already decided what they think about these two men; Biden will win the empathy gap every single time. Trump’s strength lies in his record: a string of foreign policy successes, a booming pre-coronavirus economy, a sane energy policy, a promise to continue to treat China as the geopolitical rival that it is. A campaign that made the Andy McCarthy case for the president would have been far more successful than the one that has relied upon Rudy Giuliani and a wayward soul like Hunter Biden.
And here's another one from The Hill, headlined:
GOP to Trump: Focus on policy

They're obviously referencing the Clinton era of nonstop scandals, which were complicated and never resonated with the public, given that the Clinton era was one of prosperity and Americans cared plenty about that. But they're still wrong.
Luntz is the idiot who said Hillary would win.
L
“...One set of rules for them, another set for us...”
SO true. Just look at what Nancy and her idiot friends did to the President with nothing LIKE as much corroboration of ‘evidence’ or authentic documentation.
THEY ‘impeached’ President Trump and will try it again, with nothing at all LIKE the kind of evidence the President has right now on that s*&thead Hunter!!!
The photos need to be released, if even redacted.
That will fix the minds of many people on this scandal.
Why can’t Trump do both? I’ve watched many of the President’s rallies. He speaks of what he has accomplished in 4 years and what he hopes to do if re-elected. And he talks about Biden’s corruption. Something America needs to know. Is Biden for sale?
Yep. One can only imagine what would be happening right now if the shoe were on the other foot...
The mistake to be avoided is focusing on Hunter rather than how Hunter’s dealings implicate Joe. Joe is the one running for office. It’s much easier for suburban women to sympathize with Hunter, as guilty as he is, than Joe.
Why is your nephew overdosing on fennel? Why are your favorite stores being boarded up? Why does your son have no job after college? Why are violent mobs threatening to rage into your suburbs? Why do you feel in danger merely commuting to work?
Because Joe Biden sold good jobs to China and wrecked our cities to line his own pockets.
Because if reelected Joe Biden will sell your husband's job to China.
The purient sex angle has got to be played for its moral impact on suburban women and because once scandalous photos hit the Internet, the interest in this story will grow exponentially overnight.
So in the last few days we have been told the following
Big rallies hurt Trump
Bidens corruption scandals hurt Trump
The great upcoming gdp numbers hurt Trump
Anyone else see a pattern here
Luntz is a dunce. You cant go to jail for political malpractice. That is between a fool and his lawyer.
One must think long and hard to find an incident when DjT’s instincts were proven wrong. Time and again.
Sometimes, he couldn’t enforce his instincts —ie. bouncing Fauci & countering COVID panic —without massive blowback.
And, at the first debate he may have overruled his advisors who wanted Joe to blabber on, but that’s just a guess. We know no criticism goes unchallenged.
I trust his instincts
Frank Luntz to Katie Couric, 11/8/16:
"Starting tonight, no one will ever call me a Republican again."
Luntz is not a conservative republican.
One of my biggest disappointments with the GOP this election cycle is that voters were not reminded of how useless and wasteful Nancy and her cohorts were over the last two years, chasing a fraudulent scandal, and ultimately illegitimately impeaching the president for it.
The Do-Nothing House should have been the centerpiece of the campaign to take it back.
Instead, the effort has been focused on individual races, crossing their fingers and hoping theyll take back a seat here and there.
Yep
Democrats hate it when they get exposed they are like cockroaches when the light goes on.
put the criminal aspect aside, it’s a political dumpster fire that Blago would say is f’ing golden. Just keep drip-drip-dripping salacious details every day, keep it in the news and more people will hear about it (Americans love juciy gossip about sex) and it will cause more people to be disenchanted with Biden and either stay home or vote Trump.
If justice happens to be done to Hunter and (much less likely) Joe, it will take time to build the case and still may depend on a feckless FBI and/or local prosecutor and we’ve seen that movie before.
The important thing is not putting a scumbag drug addict in jail, the important thing is getting President Trump re-elected and holding the Senate.
