White House mulls slashing federal funds to cities labeled 'anarchist jurisdictions': report

Trump administration officials have reportedly considered cutting millions of dollars for COVID-19 and other health programs in cities led by Democratic lawmakers that the Department of Justice has said "permit anarchy."

Politico reported late Tuesday New York City; Portland, Ore.; Washington, D.C.; and Seattle could lose funding for health programs that serve low-income residents, the elderly and others, according to documents it obtained. Nearly 200 health programs could face cuts from the Trump administration, it added.

A list sent to the White House budget office on Friday from the Department of Health and Human Services includes approximately 1,500 funding awards that have been given to the four cities since 2018, according to the news outlet.

The list covers 185 programs including everything from an initiative to end HIV transmission by the end of the decade to research into the opioid crisis and lung diseases, Politico noted. The list also includes funding for programs that provide hearing screenings for newborns in D.C. and nutritional services in New York City and more.

President Trump last month issued an order requiring agency heads to submit reports detailing federal funding sent to New York City, D.C., Portland and Seattle.

“Mulls”
“Considers”
“Is thinking about”
“May”
“Might”
“Could”

blah, blah, blah.

And, if “mulling” turns into real action, some leftwing judge is ready to toss it out.

Has to wait at least until the election. I think this is a message to his supporters that he understands the dire nature of the administrative state in most local governments.

The President should enter his second term by cutting off federal funding to Democrat controlled cities, Democrat controlled counties and Democrat controlled states.

I think President Trump is wise to do it by cities, and NOT by counties and states, especially states. He knows he has huge support in the outlying red counties of states. I thank him for not tossing us under the bus.

It is well within his Executive Powers to defund Democrat cities and even Democrat states. If he were just to defund Democrat cities, those Democrat states could still aid those cities. Presidential powers should not be used in a haphazard manner. Defund then all until they comply with the Administration.

The dems would have zero difficulty finding a judge who will say the President is compelled to fund left wing anarchy in perpetuity.

“The dems would have zero difficulty finding a judge who will say the President is compelled to fund left wing anarchy in perpetuity.”

Maybe, but ultimately, funding to cities and states that are not complying with standards set by the Administration can, through powers given to the President, can have funding denied and cut off.

Well this has been cooking in the background since early September according to this Sept 2 article in the NY Times. So why is it still reported as being 'mulled'?

I don’t know what the answer is, but some very serious attention needs to be given to the problem of District Atty’s and prosecutors who consistently drop charges in leftist jurisdictions. Like the one in Portland, Chicago, etc.

I’d go as far as to call it a national security issue, because people like Soros who want to destabilize us are using this vulnerability to wreck us.

And what part of the Constitution allows FedGov to send this money to any city? That's nearly 200 grants per city per year, and every single one of them somehow falls under these US's enumerated powers?

What part of the Constitution allows insurrection and various relatied criminal activity in cities unchecked, by groups whose avowed and stated purpose is to destroy the US?

It doesn't, but I fail to see how that relates to what I said?
