Next week, the U.S. will get economic news like it has never seen before, reflecting growth that had seemed impossible, as it is likely that GDP will have risen by about 30% or more.
In the middle of a pandemic. In the middle of a recession. In the middle of 12.5 million unemployed people.
While the incongruity of skyrocketing growth and extreme hardship will be impossible to ignore, it will come at an opportune time for President Donald Trump. The GDP release comes Oct. 29, just five days before the presidential election.
How seriously the country, and its voters, takes the news could influence what happens as the ballots are counted.
Even though its totally meaningless, this is going to give Trump a little lift, said Steve Blitz, chief U.S. economist at TS Lombard. Hes going to say, See, I told you, we have a V [recovery] and were zooming.
The zoom, though, will be in completely relative terms.

Smart little kid.
The hell it won’t help the President and Republicans down ballot! That is incredible news and shows they have managed the economy very well to get this incredible achievement in growth!
it sure will.....just ask Jeffery Toobin!...He's the CNN world renowned Harvard lawyer and go to guy for all things legal at CNN.....
Can someone please call CNN and get his opinion on this?.....*grin
“The GDP report next week will likely show record-breaking economic growth, ... so we’re starting to discredit it extra early!”
like, duh, a falling GDP is what Trump should want?
To hell with this traitor...... and God bless President Trump.
Jeff Cox wrote this... Garbage.
Yeah, thanks anyway, but I’m pretty sure that it will help Trump.
Keep pitching that “you guys are really dumb” chit.
Works every time.
Very wishful thinking.
So let me see
Huge rallies dont help Trump
Good economic news doesnt help Trump
Higher Republican registration doesnt help Trump
Bidens corruption scandal doesnt help Trump
Ok

In President Donald Trumps favored narrative of how elections are won and lost, the candidate who holds the most events with the biggest crowds wins.
“Every RALLY is BOFFO,” he said in a Monday tweet about his confidence of winning re-election, telling campaign staffers on a call the same day that he was now more confident of winning than he was two weeks ago, when he appeared at no campaign events while recovering from Covid-19.
Now, with two weeks to go, he heads into the final stretch of the race relying heavily on his rallies to change the dynamic of the contest - a risky strategy for a persistently unpopular candidate, and one that has failed to demonstrate success in moving voters into his column.
In fact, there are no objective indications that Trump’s rallies have any relation to boosting his support, with some suggestion they are just as likely to energize his opponents’ supporters as they are his own.
That where the “unpopular” thing came from. D-NILE!
I was laid off and remember hearing the media play up the term stay cation to make it sound like lounging around the house is equivalent to a vacation.
My favorite was “Learn to write poetry.” That and NYT stories with titles like “Your job has gone away and that’s a good thing!”
Your reality is/was the reality that most people had when they lost their job during the Obama years.
"Funemployment" was the other term.
Great

Nice editorializing by CNBC, huh?
Can someone please call CNN and get Toubin’s handle on this?.....*grin
