Greece finalizes plan to build wall on border with Turkey

Greece’s government says it has finalized plans to build a wall along its northeast border with Turkey, over concerns that migrants may try to stage mass crossings into the European Union country.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas said Monday that 26 kilometers (16 miles) of wall would be added to an existing 10-kilometer (six-mile) section of fence in a 63-million-euro ($74 million) project due to be completed by the end of April...

Police officials on Monday told The Associated Press that a surveillance camera network was also planned to cover the entire 192-kilometer (120-mile) Greek-Turkish border, while police have already started trials with high-powered mobile sirens, aimed at deterring migrants as they attempt to cross.

A standoff occurred at the border earlier this year after Turkey said it would no longer prevent migrants trying to reach the EU, and tens of thousands tried to cross into Greece.

The design will be familiar to Americans - the new state of the art - tall steel bollards with anti-climb plate, set in a massive concrete foundation, garnished with concertina.

Additionally, they are fielding sonic cannons, that produce painful sound levels, for crowd control at the border.

The Greeks need to send the ongoing bills to Brussels and to Merkel in Germany.

This Project will bring it to just over 20% of the 115 mile Greek/Turkish border that will be walled off.

They are likely prioritizing the areas where infiltrators could quickly disappear (urbanized areas), and driving them to more open rural areas, where Police/Military will have more time to respond and round them up.

“The Greeks need to send the ongoing bills to Brussels and to Merkel in Germany.”

The EU and Germany currently make ongoing payments to Turkey, to keep the “refugees” there. But Turkey uses them as a diplomatic weapon, to continually extort more concessions - and then sends waves of immigrants anyway, when it suits them.

The Euros would be wise to diversify their investment, to completely close this small land gap (~80 miles left, about 300-400 Euros worth).

Oops, that should be “300-400 MILLION Euros” (to wall off the rest of the land border with Turkey).

“Overlapping grazing fields of fire will work also.”

Most of the border is marked by the Evros River. So not only do they have clear open fields of fire over the water, but the water also slows down crossers, making them easier targets. River currents additionally would take care of a large percentage of the logistics burden of processing the human remains.

It is still manpower intensive to cover 115 miles of frontage, 24x7.

But seriously, the main thing that the barrier does is impede mob rush tactics, and delay and detect intrusions, to give responders time to stop them from getting away.

Along with this barrier in hard to control areas, they have also funded surveillance for the whole length of the border.
