Trump demands Barr investigate Hunter Biden

President Trump early Tuesday pressured Attorney General William Barr to investigate the son of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and demanded that information be released before Election Day.

“We have got to get the attorney general to act. He’s got to act and he’s got to act fast," Trump said on “Fox & Friends,” citing a New York Post report about Hunter Biden’s business dealings. Trump called on Barr to “appoint somebody” to handle the matter.

"This is major corruption and this has to be known about before the election,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks represented an extraordinary effort by the president to push a member of his Cabinet to investigate the family of his political opponent, as he explicitly invoked the election as reason to do so. They came after a group of House Republicans asked Barr to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the allegations about Hunter Biden made in the Post last week.

A spokesperson for the Justice Department did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday.

Barr can hardly be expected to do anything more than merely announce the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the matter. The pederasty allegedly involved in the tapes alone would justify such an investigation.

I have been saying for days now that the release of one sex photograph (not necessarily child porn, or if child porn pixelated) would start a stampede that the media could not hold out against.

Trump's statement, publicly made rather than privately directed, was designed for public consumption and to keep the pressure on Biden and build up to Thursday's debate. He is well aware that he will suffer allegations that he is improperly exploiting his office for personal political gain, an analog to the charges which led to his impeachment.

Clearly Trump has concluded that the allegations are well worth the publicity it brings to Biden's corruption.

If President Trump does anything, other than general commenting on the issue, he’ll be in serious trouble for abuse of power.

But there is universal basic understanding that if Biden wins, all the work done up to the election re Russiagate, and any wrongdoing by the Bidens, will simply evaporate.
