I’m a federal employee and agree it should be much easier to fire feds, and there is literally no reason why feds should be unionized.
But I want to let Freepers know that the cushy federal pensions went away with all new hires after around 1992 or so. There are only a few employed feds left with those cushy pensions (which used to be 70% of salary and no SS or TSP which is our 401k). Hires since 1992 have a tiny pension, and SS and a TSP.
Now the cushy pensions are reserved for state and county public employees.
Im a retired fed, but Im working again in the private sector. We paid more in taxes last year than I received from my modest pension.
