MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Russia’s coronavirus vaccine dubbed Sputnik V could be launched in Russia by late October-early November, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said Monday.

"We believe that the vaccine can start being widely used in Russia by late October or early November," he said. Dmitriev underlined that the vaccine production will be primarily targeted at covering domestic demand.

At the same time, the RDIF chief is hopeful that the Russian vaccine will be greenlighted in the Middle East already in November. "Undeniably, we also hope that the Russian vaccine could be approved and launched in November, particularly in the Middle East," he said, underlining that Sputnik V is the first vaccine in the world in terms of approval and interest in it.

Cool, the folks who brought us Chernobyl, have rushed a vaccine to market to get ahead of the crowd. What could possibly go wrong?

Just saying,

They have a pretty significant outbreak going on in Russia, similar to America. And India.

Their vaccine appears to be relatively lower-risk, than some others.

I sort of can understand, them rushing a bit.

“Their vaccine appears to be relatively lower-risk, than some others.”

That is my understanding as well. A low risk approach.

They used a relatively innocuous adenovirus as the carrier, with just spike protein markers of the actual COVID-19. Same approach as the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine.

It seems to be a bit on the weak side for inducing immunity, but still reasonably effective.

Others will try using killed COVID-19, or even live virus, neutered to prevent replication. And then there is the mRNA approach, which is pretty new technology, so there could be undiscovered risks with that.
