When you meet someone very old, they tend to tell you about all of the real milestones in their lives. Even if you only know them for a short while, you quickly learn the points that they find to have been major in their lifetimes - and you remember them. The stories of old people have often been great guides in my life.
Hilde was a mountain climber and an ocean swimmer. She taught be about ‘mountain sickness’, and how to save someone who was drowning in the ocean...
(And how to un-kink your back in a hot bath, when you are very old :-)
