US intelligence had picked up chatter of an 'October surprise' where Russia would leak stolen emails from Ukrainian energy company Burisma alongside forged materials to damage Joe Biden's election campaign one month before the release of content allegedly taken from Hunter Biden's laptop, according to sources.
People familiar with the matter told the New York Times that US intelligence analysts had raised concerns of a Russian hack similar to the one that occurred during the French 2017 election, where a trove of Emmanuel Macron's emails were leaked along with fake emails just two days before the country went to the polls.
The sources' claims cast doubt on the authenticity of the emails released early Wednesday morning by the New York Post that were allegedly taken from Hunter Biden's laptop.

This isn’t about the laptop, which has been in FBI possession since late 2019. That would be hard to fake, since the FBI has the actual laptops and hard drives. This is a preemptive “debunking” of more stuff coming out soon, but the media will tie it to the NYP story as well. Anything bad you hear about Biden is just Russian disinformation. Come on, man. It’s all been debunked!

How do they explain the report that the Biden campaign "would not rule out" the fact that he may have met with a Burisma executive.

That and admitting Biden did meet the guy, while at the same time denying it, which makes no sense.
Hell, Russia’s economy is totally dependent on oil and gas exports. The candidate who promises to end US use of fossil fuels and to ban fracking would be the one they prefer by a mile. They certainly would not want the president who oversaw the US becoming the #1 energy producer in the world. That cuts heavily into Russian profits.
They can say it, but who will believe it? We all remember Rudy’s heroic response after 9/11.
