Article appeared about the pilot of the Warthog that couldn’t get permission to eliminate the enemy while they were vulnerable. That failure allowed them to get armed up and shoot down the helicopter. The crew on the A-10 watched it all. Apparently no one was interested in the story.

Some here were happy to buy FraudCo’s version of the story.

The rules of engagement or ROE cost us many casualties in the sandbox that would not have occurred otherwise. When you watch an enemy but are unable to engage them it allows them to either mount an effective attack or live to mount one another day. The ROE under the Obama administration was dreadful. Period. Trump reversed much of that to allow our soldiers to engage the enemy on more favorable terms rather than react after they attacked.

However, what happened to the small group of SEAL Team 6 was a golden BB. The idea that our politicians would somehow “sacrifice” them and the Chinook they were flying in is absurd. We know it was a lucky RPG hit on the chopper. How could you “plan” that. They shoot many RPG’s at choppers with very few hits.

A unit was under attack (unanticipated or they would not have been there to begin with) and the members of Team 6 heard the radio call and jumped on the first available bird (a regular Chinook). The pilot was flying too low and the enemy got lucky.

The conspiracy theories surrounding this event have flourished ever since.

On the other hand, the Iran deal never made sense to me by any reasonable analysis so I do not know what was behind it that we are not aware of, but the idea that it somehow involved an event with no apparent connection that appears by all credible sources to have been random chance or a magic BB is a real stretch. Commanders in the military DO NOT sacrifice their men as part of some conspiracy. The odds of scoring an RPG hit on a Chinook are not very high, but it can (and sadly did) happen.
