The rules of engagement or ROE cost us many casualties in the sandbox that would not have occurred otherwise. When you watch an enemy but are unable to engage them it allows them to either mount an effective attack or live to mount one another day. The ROE under the Obama administration was dreadful. Period. Trump reversed much of that to allow our soldiers to engage the enemy on more favorable terms rather than react after they attacked.
However, what happened to the small group of SEAL Team 6 was a golden BB. The idea that our politicians would somehow “sacrifice” them and the Chinook they were flying in is absurd. We know it was a lucky RPG hit on the chopper. How could you “plan” that. They shoot many RPG’s at choppers with very few hits.
A unit was under attack (unanticipated or they would not have been there to begin with) and the members of Team 6 heard the radio call and jumped on the first available bird (a regular Chinook). The pilot was flying too low and the enemy got lucky.
The conspiracy theories surrounding this event have flourished ever since.
On the other hand, the Iran deal never made sense to me by any reasonable analysis so I do not know what was behind it that we are not aware of, but the idea that it somehow involved an event with no apparent connection that appears by all credible sources to have been random chance or a magic BB is a real stretch. Commanders in the military DO NOT sacrifice their men as part of some conspiracy. The odds of scoring an RPG hit on a Chinook are not very high, but it can (and sadly did) happen.
I don't think this story is entirely out of the realm of possibility, given all the weird details over-all, and other unusual things that occurred during that administration.
“wouldnt he know that announcing ahead of time that he is planning on releasing a bunch of dirt on them is a good way to get himself killed?”
It also allows him to raise money until the data disappears in a hack by Deep Staters and he needs more money to retrieve the data
There is a Huffington Post article from him back in 2009 or so talking about his connections to Mid East Royals as a Falconer. The guy is credentialed.

He has already shared the data and people are reading it. It is out to Media outlets. It is in Congress. This is real. If it is what he said it is, then it is also a game changer. We’re talking treason.
The story is plausible. Will the proof be there? We shall see. Quickly it appears. Little bits of it are showing up already.

Fast & Furious should come out today
John Solomon. Without any hesitation.
People in the military -- even guys in SEAL Team 6 -- aren't isolated in a bubble from the rest of the world. Anyone who thinks that clearly knows nothing about how such groups actually exist, live, train, etc..
Who do you think those guys were who appeared on TV, said "I was a Navy SEAL on that raid, and I killed/helped kill OB"?? Actors?
why are the parents of at least one of the team members so suspicious that they went on program after program talking about it?
Because if so, that is absolute looney toons, and anyone with any actual knowledge of the U.S. Spec War community knows that.
Okay, which team members are you talking about? Are we talking about team members on 1) the raid to kill OBL 2) the "Sole Survivor" fight in Afghanistan, or 3) the attack on the compound and annex in Benghazi?
Because the only parent I read about in this thread was the father of Ty Woods, and Woods was killed at Benghazi after he'd left the SEALs. And Benghazi has absolutely nothing to do with a helicopter being shot down in Afghanistan, or the OBL raid.
So exactly which incident do you guys think you're discussing?
Exactly right.
one of the seal members on the helicopter
Okay great. That video is a father talking about his son being killed in the Chinook that got shot down In August 2011. It has absolutely nothing to do with the OBL raid, nor with the attack on Benghazi.
What does that helicopter being shot down have to do with the death of Osama bin Laden?
mark
That's makes a big difference when some folks are trying to create the false implication that the SEALs shot down in August were the same ones who had carried out the raid on OBL in May. Referring to both groups only as "SEAL Team 6" makes it seem to the less-informed that they were the same group of men. They weren't.
you don’t know?
