Did I say anything about America getting involved? Is America an eastern minority?

“Teach the cowardly West a lesson in courage” is a clear call to action from the West. Which is generally us.

That support should NOT include American soldiers. No offense, but you guys do not get anything about this region, and it always ends badly. Intelligence, maybe some new toys. Israel ought to be more involved, but discreetly.

The answer to that one is “notourproblem.com”. (Not actual website, URL is just for emphasis.)

Armenian genocide by the Turks happened between 1914-1917. IIRC the western world was preoccupied with something else during that time.

Russia has the moral high ground on this one. USA should not so discretely signal Russia that they have our blessing to roll over the Azeris without threat of sanctions or other BS. We can recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh for good measure.

American soldiers is a big no-no in this one. All we need to do is publicly recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh and give Russia the nod to take care of the Azeri scum without threat of international sanctions.

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a Russia-brokered cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh starting Saturday, but immediately accused each other of derailing the deal intended to end the worst outbreak of hostilities in the separatist region in more than a quarter-century.

The two sides traded blame for breaking the truce that took effect at noon (0800 GMT) with new attacks, and Azerbaijan’s top diplomat said the truce never entered force.

The cease-fire announcement came overnight after 10 hours of talks in Moscow sponsored by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The deal stipulated that the cease-fire should pave the way for talks on settling the conflict.

I guess Turkey wasn’t invited.

“...Going to have to go with “The US is busy and unavailable to help,” on this one...”

Which is fine and understandable, but the fact that on every one of these threads thus far, someone has felt the need to chime in with “not our problem!” (and quite often long before anyone in the threat has even REMOTELY suggested the idea of US involvement), has started to make me wonder if that, for some of the “not our problem!” peanut gallery, the: “not our problem!” is less about the spectre of (imagined) US involvement, and more a case of: “I resent the fact that I keep seeing this board get cluttered up with threads about people I really don’t give so much as two shits about?”

Maybe they should try calling for the European Union to exercise their soft power to help them...

Naw we don't need them, the cities of Portland and Chicago have a good number of civilian social workers who are trained in conflict resolution they can handle the job.

It really isn’t our problem though - Russia is currently supporting Armenia with weapons and logistics and intelligently is using it as yet another way to test weapons against NATO equipment thanks to Turkey propping up Azerbaijan. Also worth noting that Russia has in the last 48 hours forced a ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Again, I’m not seeing that this is actually our problem, I’m not seeing that us entering the conflict is a good idea or even necessary; in fact, since Russia seems to be dealing with the problem, I don’t see how getting involved there would be anything but a bad idea.

The very title of this thread is suggesting US involvement. Also it’s part of being the US. When it comes to international kerfuffles the world takes 2 opinions at the same time:
why isn’t the US helping
how dare the US interfere

And of course it doesn’t bother the rest of the world that those are mutually exclusive. One way or the other the US is wrong and that’s OK with them. Meanwhile we need to pick our battles and acknowledge that some parts of the world are just screwed up and they need to get their own stuff worked out.
