You know FRiends, I love this site and I love my country dearly, but these kinds of threads are exceptionally difficult to read. I’m not questioning the premise of the article, but I really struggle with the hate, mocking and complete lack of understanding of what it means for a person to be “gay.”

I’ve dealt with same sex attraction since I was 10 years old. I hated the feelings I found myself having but had no control over them or understanding where they came from. I didn’t need anyone to mock me to be depressed, lonely, angry and self-loathing; I was able to do that all by myself. Without boring you with a novel, I identified as gay for seven years of my life. God called me out of it and I’ve been a Christian for over 30 years. There was no magic wand and all of the feelings went away - I have to choose Christ every day and I often fail.

The truth is, my sin is no greater than anyone else’s. If you’re greedy, gossiping, hating, lusting after the opposite sex - the ground is level at the foot of the cross. Forgive me if this comes across as lecturing, but if you are a Christian and truly care about other humans, all humans, then the church and Christ’s love has to be stronger than the love and acceptance people get from non-Christians.

There is a vast distinction between being affected by same-sex attraction and being “gay.” The latter has far more culpable implications.

“Gay” infers that a person embraces their condition as morally neutral and engages in the associated behavior without apology. It is a political term, and as such, is condemnable to the highest degree possible.

Every “gay” person is same sex-attracted, but not every same sex-attracted person is “gay.” I hope that distinction is clear enough.
