The Nobel Committee announced Friday morning that the 2020 Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Program, a United Nations agency, for its efforts during the pandemic to combat global hunger, laying the foundations for peace in war-torn countries.

“In the face of the pandemic, the World Food Program has demonstrated an impressive ability to intensify its efforts,” Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said in Oslo while announcing the prize. “The combination of violent conflict and the pandemic has led to a dramatic rise in the number of people living on the brink of starvation."

BREAKING NEWS:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to the World Food Programme (WFP).

As the global fallout from the pandemic began this spring, the World Food Program estimated that the number of people experiencing life-threatening levels of food insecurity could more than double this year, to 265 million.

The World Food Program — the largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and promoting food security internationally — last year provided assistance to nearly one million people in 88 countries. (NYT)

David Beasley, the program’s executive director, said the WFP was “deeply humbled” to be honored with the prize.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve been speechless,” he said in a video message. “They’re out there in the most difficult, complex places in the world — whether its war, conflict, climate extremes, it doesn’t matter. They’re out there and they deserve this award.”

We are deeply humbled to receive the #NobelPeacePrize. This is an incredible recognition of the dedication of the @WFP family, working to end hunger everyday in 80+ countries.

Thank you @NobelPrize for this incredible honor! pic.twitter.com/bHcS0usWQa— David Beasley (@WFPChief) October 9, 2020

According to Newsweek, "Beasley supported Trump during his 2016 election campaign" and "was tapped to lead the WFP in 2017, by then-U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley." He served as Republican governor of South Carolina from 1995-1999.

It couldn't be President Trump, and it would have been too embarrassing to have Greta instead.

So glad it wasn’t Trump. The Nobel committee does not deserve to be legitimized by our great president.

I knew it was a joke and only political when they awarded it to Jimmah Carter in 2002, for ‘brokering the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty with the Norks’. Two weeks later the Norks announced that they were Nuclear.

Carter should have returned the Prize and the Money......but he didn’t. We can be assured that NO REPUBLICAN WILL EVER WIN THE PEACE PRIZE, ever. We are on the wrong side of the political debate.

RE: We can be assured that NO REPUBLICAN WILL EVER WIN THE PEACE PRIZE

Well, the Executive Director of the World Food Program which just won the prize, David Beasley, served as the REPUBLICAN governor of South Carolina and supported Trump over Hillary. So there.

Would that be the not noble Nobel Prize?

Only means something to the phony elites of the world.

YES, and Al Gore for his Global Warming Powerpoint over a more deserving Irene Sendler.

The prize didn't go to the director. It went to an agency of the United Nations, which is and always has been a leftist entity created as a stepping stone to world government by and for the world's elite power brokers. So there!

Thank you for that bit of history. I didn’t know about her efforts. Bless her. A true Angel during a dark time. 2500 lives saved out of Warsaw.

Yes exactly a Fuc$ing Joke! Obama wins for being in office for 20 days and goes to order airstrikes in seven different countries (that we know of). The Nobel Peace Prize since March 1901 has been awarded annually to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

Guess bringing peace to the Middle East doesn't to count.

So they passed up Irina Sendler in favour of Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Yassar Arafat, and Barack Obama?

Trump's in good company.

This reveals all anyone cares to know about the Nobel Prize.
