OK, the New York Time’s article’s main point is this:
“... a cursory search of tax records shows that the Chinese Progressive Association in San Francisco, which has teamed up with the Black Futures Lab, is an entirely different nonprofit from the Chinese Progressive Association in Boston, which sponsored events with the Chinese consulate.”
So, they are saying that the Chinese Progressive Association of San Francisco is a BENIGN organization with no links to the CCP?
This article however, contrary to the New York Times, states that Trevor Loudon insists that ( I quote ):
“... both organizations named Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) “are controlled by Liberation Road,” Loudon said. “Both of them are controlled by Maoist communists who have been a part of the same groups for 50 years now. They might be organizationally autonomous, but they are part of the same movement.”
The CPA in Boston has very close ties and officially works for the Chinese Consulate in New York, Loudon said, but the Chinese Progressive Association in San Francisco is also very closely tied to the Chinese consulate there. They are “both front groups for the same communist organization” even though they are governed by separate boards, he added.
WHO TO BELIEVE? The New York Times, or this particular author?

FRSO and Liberation Road are the same group—Liberation Road is what FRSO started calling themselves recently. The activity described in this article also involves a few other major groups and many minor ones, including chiefly the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS, a post-Soviet offshoot of the Communist Party, which they allow dual membership in along with the Socialist Party), the revived Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and its Weather Underground affiliate (including Bill Ayers who is still active), the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) which is behind the Refuse Fascism movement that protested Trump’s inauguration, the Workers World Party (WWP) which travels with neo-Nazi groups as well as the far left and is linked to North Korea (-> China), and By Any Means Necessary (BAMF) which coordinates Antifa in the Bay Area). CCDS is in the process of formally merging with Liberation Road. They are allied with the Democratic Socialists of America and the Congressional Progressive Caucus, as well as with far-left labor groups such as the SEIU and local/regional left-wing political parties such as the Working Families Party. But this is not very organized, according to Christopher Wray.
I believe the FBI. If this were true, they’d be all over it already.

A cursory search would also show overlapping leadership, affiliations, activities, etc. between the SF and Boston groups and the Chinese consulates in SF and New York. The Boston branch works with Chinese officials in New York to fast-track passports for illegals. Congresswoman Grace Meng has assisted with this.
