Preach on, Brother. I’m there. Bear with me, because this stuff makes me want grab people by the shoulders and give them a shake.

My poor wife. She is a bit younger than me, and tends to go along with everything, and I tend to buck it, with acid commentary. I know she is sick of my intransigence and wishes I would just put the mask on.

But I’ll be damned if I am going to spend the last decade or two of my life putting a mask on and taking it off, keeping it handy, seeing fear in people’s eyes when you get to close, not shaking a person’s hand, watching the faces of loved ones and strangers.

I think the adoption by many people of hand hygiene is a good thing. I have spent decades in health care washing my hands dozens of times a day for good reason. But I see this mask business, the separation, the rules, regulations, and rigidity quite differently.

I’m not going to do it. I am not going to spend the last years of my life, if I am lucky enough to live that long, engaging in this idiocy.

If this were the Black Death or something as deadly as that, they wouldn’t need to force people to wear masks, distance, or quarantine. People would be holed up in their houses with guns. But it isn’t.

And that unreasonable fear stems from a deeper societal problem I think we have been facing for a while, it is this infantile fantasy with total safety all the time in everything, for everyone.

I am sick and tired of living in a society where the media highlights every single person, researcher, politician, or organization that has the vapors about safety issues with everything involving everything from coronavirus, bb guns, bicycles, cars, monkey bars, wine, smoking, encephalitis, flesh eating bacteria, saturated fats, Alar, eggs, coffee, cats, dogs, flying, driving, keeping score in games, walking, exercising, peanuts, Big Wheels, Internet Usage, self esteem, asbestos, lead paint, you name it.

There is this freakish and odd fixation with total safety-the world will end if someone has a skinned knee or hurt feelings. They want to wrap not just kids, but people, all of us, up in bubble wrap.

We are all going to die. All of us. Nobody gets out alive. No one.

I am sick of living in a society where people have panic and fear written all over their faces about damn near anything. A kid has a BB gun in the background while taking part in a virtual lesson. The stupidity is astonishing. It is not too much to predict they would have the same response if there were a photograph there, or even a painting of a BB gun.

Don’t go outside. Don’t swim in the ocean. Don’t do this. Don’t do that. Conservatives are complicit in this too, but the lion’s share of this stupidity is the Left. Their mental illness is becoming contagious.

We see it with this idiotic mask crap, and there is more of this coming. See my Freep tagline-when I heard Candace Owens say it in her new book, it really struck me as the root.

It also brings to mind this quote from C.S. Lewis: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under live robber barons than under omnipotent moral busibodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good, will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
