I want to be wrong, however I suspect the contamination of surfaces more than an absence of masks; it might be easier for a super-spreader to do his or her evil viral assaults unnoticed. .

Even with a mask, surface spreading would be effective. One of the arguments against masks, aside from the fact that they are useless for airborne viruses, is that people touch their faces all the time when they’re adjusting the masks and thus transfer any contact virus practically on top of heir nose, mouth, eyes, etc.
